Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Isn't Unix just a foundation that the Apple OS is built upon?

Yep and I agree it is solid as rock, that kernel doesn't crash unless you smash your machine :lol

edit: think of it as the foundation of your house...

Apple's Introduction video for the iPad (not sure if its been posted already, too lazy too look)

I've heard that the reason Mac OS is more stable than Windows is that Mac used a pure Unix foundation but Windows used some sort of hacked version and because of that, it wouldn't run like Mac and has problems.

Well the code that built the kernal for MAC is far superior than MS-DOS which gates purchased way back in the 80's and the kernel32 is horrendous with everything accessing it. Hopefully 64 will be much better but it just seems that apps/companies other software vendors are still in beta with supporting 64bit fully, kind of like Adobe with their Flash. They got the CS family ported over successfully, well at least I think it's running efficiently. I haven't had any problems yet with CS4 on Vista 64bit.

They both have plenty of problems, in my experience Mac computers crash just as much as Windows PC's

Anyways--Good news, Apple removed the restriction of VOIP apps from 3G so you'll be able to make calls with this over 3G with VOIP.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

I'm still on CS :lol I can't afford to keep up with Adobe, though at some point I do need to bite the bullet and buy the upgrade. For awhile, it was a lot of money for little changes from previous versions, now that a few have passed there are enough advancements.

Think about 3D programs--3ds Max is $3,500, they have a new version every year, in fact one time they had a new release in October and then the next version in March (that pissed a lot of people off). But luckily they have a subscription service for like $400 a year that gives you all updates and new releases for free.

They never show the iPad keyboard being used on any surface but a person's lap. Makes me wonder how difficult it will be to use on a flat, horizontal surface. The backing doesn't look flat.

It isn't flat, and that's one big complaint--since the keyboard is so small it's already hard to type, but without the back actually being flat it makes it even harder to type

Seems like a huge oversight.

The "cover" which is leather (natch!) will double as a kickstand

It is also reportedly going to eat the "bend" similar to a lot of cases do. They also have keyboard dock for the times you are going to do a lot of surfing

Griffin just announced their first products for it which help lay it flat as well.

I don't want to pay that much money to watch a cropped/pan & scan version of Star Trek.

I would be much more tempted by a 16x9 screen--or at least something closer than what they're offering at this point. If there was a way to import one of my Blu-rays into iTunes at 720p and store it on this thing for playback, I would love it. But that's never going to happen. So for the time being, I'm sticking with physical discs and a laptop.

Nice, but still an oversight, unless you're telling me those accessories are included with the iPad purchase.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

In the Box:

- iPad
- Dock connector to USB cable
- 10w Power Adapter
