Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

So from what I can tell across the interwebs, there is no:

1) USB/HDMI ports

2) Multi tasking

3) Camera

What am I missing? :huh I would wait for the next gen of these, I am sure they will be much improved.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

Dave curious why you would want a camera on something like this?

I am more curious if I can play my BDs on it.

Need a camera for Skype and any kind of video conferencing. Also I'd imagine it would be useful for students using it in a classroom setting. And there's no drive on it, so no bluray discs.

:rock :rock Me too. It might suck hard like the Apple TV, but I still want one just for the Ereader feature....everything else is a nice bonus!!!

I'm wondering if the other tablets coming out (and there are a lot of them) will be just as good for color e-reading. That's what I'm waiting for, but I don't think I should have to sacrifice Flash to get it. Also the 4:3 aspect ratio is death for watching video - everything nowadays is at least 16:9 if not 2:35:1.

That's fine. Defrag, protect, cleanup, spybot, do whatever you need to do. While your doing that I will continue to enjoy my Mac that works every day ALL day with no screwing around with maintenance. Thank you. :clap:lol

But don't try to use a Mac in a business environment - networking with Macs is a nightmare that I face everyday.

But I was becoming a Mac convert - I love my iPhone even though it doesn't have Flash - I don't websurf much on it anyway. But the drawbacks to the ipad are too many and the competition too great for me to be an early adapter of it.

It's $499.. With all those features it would be $1,000.. Their target market is to up against the Kindle and EEEPC's. If they made it in between the size of the iphone and the new ipad I would consider it since this seems too large to carry around and not functional enough to use as a laptop replacement. It does need a camera in order to do video on video conferencing. That is what the iphone should have working perfectly by now but so far its only one way.

Well, it does have USB via adapter, so that's not a big issue--not that it'd be expensive at all to add a USB port to it. As for multitasking--that's just a software issue, they simply didn't do it, it's not a money problem.

And as for the camera--if they can release an iPod Nano with a camera for the same price as the previous generation then there's no reason why they couldn't have had one here.

And this is the type of thing that screams for a camera--I'm absolutely sure the next version will have a camera as a big feature, but no reason it shouldn't be there already.

It's almost as if they thought up the idea entirely in the past year and didn't have any inspiration for it.

Here's a nice link that touches on most of my complaints:

I'm still predicting that all those features you mentioned above will be included for the 2nd gen.

I don't mean to be ignorant but I just haven't heard of any upcoming competition. Are you referring to a new version of the kindle or something. :dunno:eek: Also the aspect ratio I agree is not so good. I don't know why they wouldn't go with widescreen? You have to think that next year they will probably have it. That's the hard part about early adoption with apple. They seem to upgrade pretty darn fast.

The aspect ratio is the way it is to make it easier for reading webpages and PDF documents. That is the main purpose of this machine. Movie watching is secondary, if not they would have included a Blu-ray or DVD drive to it.

I wouldn't be so sure, that's what everyone thought about the 3rd Gen iTouch.

The HP Slate should be coming out this year but it will probably cost a lot more. But, it should have the full Windows 7 OS which means it will be more like a true PC/Laptop. Lenovo also makes tablet PC but they are a lot more expensive.

Windows = Viruses, maintenance, and blue screens. I will wait for Apple's second or third gen and then decide.

Really? I've never had much problems getting OSX, Linux, and Windows to play nice with eachother. Are you trying to get them to connect to an Active Directory server? If so, then that's one trick I haven't done but hear it's a major pain. We use Open Directory here and it works great.

I don't want to pay that much money to watch a cropped/pan & scan version of Star Trek.

I would be much more tempted by a 16x9 screen--or at least something closer than what they're offering at this point. If there was a way to import one of my Blu-rays into iTunes at 720p and store it on this thing for playback, I would love it. But that's never going to happen. So for the time being, I'm sticking with physical discs and a laptop.

There's a video on Apple's site showing someone watching Up in its OAR. Then they double-tap the screen to show it in full screen. Hopefully that's what's going on with Star Trek here.
