One thing I love about Jobs is that he always strikes me as having a youthful, geek enthusiasm for this stuff, it's as much a toy for him to play with as those who are going to buy that. I think that's important and part of why Apple is often more user friendly with devices and software, like Hot Toys and their figures, if you'd be excited and buy it from someone else but you're in the position to make it, you're really going to turn out something nice because you can approach it from both the maker and buyer POVs.

Yes, well, I can't argue with that.

Except, when I heard this:

I expected more. Maybe he meant "This will be the most important thing I've ever done....after a few iterations."

Well it's not necessarily a false statement. The iPad could develop into something really amazing. Tech like this is no different than human beings. Right now, the iPad is an infant. Einstein was a baby once and probably picking his nose and scratching his ass but he grew up into something great. The iPad can also grow into something great, and Jobs also knows what R&D is up to and may know further advancements already being heavily researched for the iPad and knows where this is going, even if it's not there yet.

Of course the iPad has potential. But the iPhone was amazing the moment it was revealed. We can't talk about the iPad without comparing it to it's little brother(s). I'm disappointed that Apple is following the same pattern as before with the inevitable yearly iterations and upgrades. The problem? The first generation iPad should be AWESOME enough to entice people like me, who were amazed by devices like the iPhone on day one.

It's kinda interesting--there's an article on Gizmodo where they make the point that this might fulfill the original purpose of Netbooks which is something small, cheap, and easy to use that would allow casual users to easily be able to do regular stuff like listen to music and browse the internet. Whereas Netbooks all run Windows now so they're really just a poor mans laptop and not a solution for people who don't want a complex computer.

This is exactly why I want one. I bought a netbook while in grad school because I hated carrying around my full sized laptop in my pack while riding my bike to school. Having one of these would've been awesome two years ago. I used my netbook for taking notes in PowerPoint, playing on the internet when I was supposed to be paying attention, and it helped kill time when I had nothing to do in between classes.

I actually might go lower tier to play around with it. Its Apple so the 2nd Gen will be out without a year or so and I might want to wait to see what is included there...

I can certainly see the use for an ipad - and it being color immediately makes it superior to the 3 main e-readers out there. I might buy it just for that myself. If that is the only market that they're going after - they may succeed. But this had the potential to be so much more. The HP Slate, and all the other tablets that will come out in '10 and '11 will probably be more expensive, but will also fill a lot of gaps that the ipad doesn't.

This is what I'm doing. I was gonna buy a Kindle in April, but now I'm gonna wait for an iPad...32GB with 3G.

I'll only get one if it has 128GB and 3G.. Anything less and its useless to me since I want to be able to upload a blu-ray and play it. And I'll wait until this thing gets jailbroken so it can actually play anything..

What is the point of uploading a blu-ray to such a tiny screen? The resolution is only 1024 x 768, I don't think it's going to matter if it's full blu or compressed a bunch.
