I actually had a 3DO back when it came out. It was the same deal as the Pippin and CDi. They were all WAAAAY overpriced and the early CD games used way too much FMV.

They all were simply too overpriced for the quality of games they had. But they weren't really meant for games, they were supposed to be more of a home VCD/CD system though VCD never caught on over here like it did in Japan. This would have happened to the PS3 too had Blu-ray lost the format war.

Jim Lee bought an iPad and using an app called "Sketchpad" did these:

Using only the finger swipe and the layering effects. While I'm no Jim Lee, you can't do this on your iPhone or a laptop and it'd be fairly fun to see how artistic you can get with it. The reality is that its a big iPod Touch but some of the apps coming out with it won't make sense on such a small screen and that has me excited to have one. It won't replace my iPhone or my laptop but serve as an eReader, portable movie player, for games and for surfing the web without squinting on the go. I still don't want the 3G version because I don't want to pay for another data plan but I think it'll be more than a gimmick. This is also why I'm willing to wait for one because its not a necessity.

I think even if you can justify a purchase, the smart money is on waiting until the next generation, which we all know is coming.

As EF said a new iPhone is due out in June, June 22nd is the rumored premiere date. Its supposed to double storage capacity amongst a ton of other rumors so I'd wait for any and all iPhone AND iPad purchases until then....

The 3GS is great, but yeah, there will probably be a new phone released this summer.

btw - iPhone OS 4.0 will be previewed to the press Thursday!

I love my 3GS. I can't imagine life without one now. But as others have said, you might want to wait and see what the next release is like. At the very least, this model might drop in price at that time as well.

I got an iPad at launch. I am loving it so far. It is so nice to be able to casually browse the web on the couch. The apps are pretty cool too. I know that it would have been wise to wait for the next generation but I just couldn't resist.

They should give an iPad away for every time they destroy one. Some people spend their entire paychecks just to get something like an iPad (and work very hard)....and then those people get one for free or with company money and ____ing destroy it?

If someones entire paycheck is the cost of an Ipad then they shouldn't be buying one IMO.
