Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

HP just released a video for it's iPad killer.

I'd buy that.

Really? The fully functional multi-tasking operating system, web camera, flash, true USB port, etc. didn't impress you over the ipad?

Those are win functions to me.

Watch, the next iPad will have multi-tasking, and Steve Jobs will act like Apple invented multi-tasking.

Nope. I have a full featured laptop for all of that. You guys keep trying to pitch the iPad as a regular laptop, I don't even recall them ever saying it'll compete with a netbook. Its not, nor did Apple ever mention it would be.

Once the iPad gets jailbroken it'll do everything you just listed minus the true USB and camera.

Holy crap! Is that for real? :drool

Nope. Thinkgeek always does this kind of stuff for fun, but then again if there's enough interest they might make it. Remember their Taun-Taun sleeping bag April Fool's joke last year?? So many people tried to order one and contacted them for orders that they actually decided to make it.

Something else that is funny:

Apple leads, others follow.
Let's see what this thing can do.
If I wanted to crunch numbers and watch my photos on the couch then ok. But I will never do that on a Ipod kind of device.

This looks like a winner to me..

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

If you were wondering how much it cost Apple to manufacture each iPad:

It's a tricky thing, though, to finger how many dollars were poured into, for instance, each and every iPad out there. Even if you don't want to count research and development, marketing, and of all the indirect cost that goes into a product, what Apple pays for components might be different than what iSuppli estimates, as does what it costs to put together.

But whatever, we just want to see the numbers. Here's the highlights of what iSuppli says went into the iPad:

$95 touchscreen display (multitouch is pricey)
• $26.80 processor built by Samsung
• $29.50 16GB memory; $59 32GB memory; $118 64GB memory
• $10.50 aluminum back

It comes to a total of $259.60 in guts for the 16GB model, $289.10 in the 32GB model and $348.10 in the 64GB model. Okay! That was fun. Do you feel properly infuriated now?

So, about $260 for the base model.

Re: The Apple Tablet "The iPad"

At first I thought the estimate was high, especially considering that most manufacturers like Nintendo, Sony, or Dell makes a small fraction of profit for each unit sold (or loses money in Sony's case), but then I remember that it's Apple we're talking about here and their stuff has always been pricey.

I think its rather funny how different companies and different people always name a product an "apple killer". Because it's never true nor holds up and apple always kills them. :lol:monkey1
