Hey you can re-enact that scene from the movie when IM crash lands into his garage, averone! :p I can see the insurance claim now, freak 1:2 IM learns to fly and wreaks havoc.

You don't think you should be so critical after spending 2K on a statue???

And what is there to fault with this picture?

Its not yours im talking about with the paint issues its INFECDEAD's.
I'm obviously in the minority of not wanting to pay large amounts for items covered in orange peel paint.

Hummm..
I didnt notice!

I hope for more consistency with Sideshow!
Thats all I can wish for!

Thanks to everyone for being cool about the new statue and my pics :D it made the run around I did before work today worth it and it's good to see the nastiness of the other thread has gone!
Just to cover a couple of ?'s from the thread before I cover off the statue...
It cost $160 US to post to OZ.
I had to pay $289 in customs duty for it...It might have been $269 but I had a bad hang over when Fedex rang me at 8.30 Tuesday morning and couldn't understand him :sick I just rattled off my cc number off the top of my head and went back to sleep.
So basically it cost me $2900 Ozzie dollars. :horror
But I did get $100 reward points and a gift voucher came with it but I don't know what it is worth yet....

Neither my shippers or the statue are numbered.

Here it is in front of some of my Marvel PF's

Ok so the statue arrived in near perfect condition. The only thing that is wrong with it is that the paint on the toe points on both feet seems to be worn off I think from rubbing on the styrofoam. Other than this it's sweet. There are scratches near where the toes touch the base but these are so close to the base it doesn't really matter.

As for the paint job, for the most part the armor paint in the main focus areas is excellent. The greasing effect however is fairly sloppy. Personally I like the grease look, it breaks up the statue a bit more than if it was just all one colour. There are a few areas like this one where the effect is rough.

P1000489.jpg

The arm pit areas are made up of pistons, cables and circuits. These are not painted very well with some pistons half painted and general slop between the silver and red sections. Pretty ordinary at this price point. Sorry I can't get a good picture of this.

My statue also has a downright craptacular left ankle on the underside of the armor. It is just not painted red at all and grease painted over poorly.
The inside arch sections of the feet also have this. It is in a difficult to see spot on the statue but again at this price point sections like this could at least be touched up red by hand and then greased over to fix it up.
Fail.

The neck and should armor area is also rough. It seems to have a stickiness to the v section where the neck joins the armor like excess glue or something is present. It has dust stuck in it and I'm going to try and buff it out.

There is a moulding flaw on the back of the right leg which should have been filled and patched up before and/or during painting. Again at this price point poor. Maybe all of them have this I don't know.

Look, I admit I have picked the ____ out of this statue. It does have some problems.

But I really do think it is great overall. If you like the pose, have the money and the inclination I think you will be happy. But I have learned with collecting not to expect perfection.

I am rarely satisfied with the paint on any sideshow statue. I've seen fishing lures with better paint jobs than PF's. I have an Iron Man bust and have no flaws with it, no more so than every other PF I have of Sideshows. I think I have enough Sideshow product to know that as a factory produced collectible the Iron Man 1:2 is a pretty damn fine piece of kit. After I touch a couple of things up I will be happy with it no end. Since we are all dropping 2k and over for this I can see how some will see this pieces flaws as unacceptable. I can live with them. This thing kicks ass.

If I received a statue in the condition yours is in, I would return it and ask for my money back (or a replacement to see if any of the problems get fixed). Averone's statue seems a lot better than yours, or at the very least Averone wasn't as picky and did not have as many closeup's of it in his review. Overall, there are too many potential flaws for such an expensive item that i will have to pass. The sanding job looks very poor in certain area's. I would imagine that these first ones would be scrutinized even more by the team working on them since these would be put up on forum's like these. Once the run starts and they have to go as quickly as possible, I can only see problems like these getting worse as less time is taken for proper sanding. It doesn't make sense to have so many bad area's on one statue. I can understand that none will be perfect, but un-sanded or rough paint and or missing or sloppy paint is unacceptable. You guys are trying to justify this as being un-expensive but I beg to differ. Even the area's that have grease marks should be sanded and not rough. Or the grease should be applied evenly as well.. Overall, I am hoping to see more reviews and have more reviewers that are willing to take close-ups and tell it how it is. It will benefit all of us in making a decision to buy or not to buy.

If I lived in the US returning it might be an option, but seeing as I am in sunny Australia it means that a return would cost sideshow serious coin to post back which means I could have to destroy it which is a total waste. I would have to pay $300 duty again too.
Sideshow in all likelihood might offer me a discount but I don't see the flaws as being critical enough to whinge about. Sideshows service department is fantastic. They have helped me out heaps of times with spare parts and replacements for PF's that have arrived broken and the 1 PF I managed to break myself :duh.
The main problem I have with this piece is the paint on the ankle. It is not visible unless you get down to foot height and look up under the armor. I will touch it up. It's no problem it is not like it is in the middle of the chest. All the rest of the issues to me are standard collecting flaws. Face it your nose isn't going to be pressed up against this thing all day looking for ____ to pick.
So I didn't get a flawless piece. Averone did by the looks of it and gave a great review and great pics. Hopefully some more reviews come in and mine ends up being the worst of the bunch cos I can suck it up and live with it. And if I can't it's nothing beer cant fix :D
