Groovy.

Was hoping for more axes though. Dude on the right with the short beard, flowy black hair, and a sword looks like a man. Not a dwarf. Hopefully hight sells it though.

I have a feeling the ladies will like these two. ;)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Interesting to see a young and (relatively) beardless dwarve. I am really liking the individual attention to details each dwarve is receiving.

Can't wait to see them photoshopped into the group photo. :lol

Agreed! Its cool to see them getting so much attention for each character so that when they're all on screen they stand out but are a group at the same time.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Kili looks like Aragorn Junior...

I too would like to see a few more axes, but we are just at halfway here, with more to see. The more I see, the more I think I might collect some of these if Sideshow has the Maquette license...

wallet = :(

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

My fear exactly. 13 dwarves in single maquette form alone would be $3250 plus shipping. And that is saying nothing of any of the other characters in The Hobbit.

:horror

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I can't believe the people on Facebook that are complaining about the looks of the dwarves, or is it dwarfs.......anyway, I think they look awesome! Some are saying they don't know if they're going to go see this now. :cuckoo:

It's an outrage! :cuss :rotfl

...I really like the look of these two. Especially not having the full Dwarf beards and such just yet since they're young Dwarves.

Kili is such a rebel. I bet his parents are not happy that he doesn't braid his hair like all good little Dwarves. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Can anybody with some decent photoshop skills work in Gandalf to the group picture? I think the sense of scale will help sell the dwarves too.

They have done an excellent job making them all look distinct thus far, and while I can see each one distinctly, I know that "guy with long hair and beard" is going to look just like the 12 other "guys with long hair and beards" for some folks. My wife still has trouble telling Aragorn apart from Boromir, but I think we fixed that that with the recent LOTR EE theatrical screening!

All the Dwarves were looking great, but this last photo kind of looks like Legolas and Aragorn as Dwarves.

They said they were going to make one of the Dwarves the new heart throb (the Legolas for the Hobbit films ) which I thought was a really bad idea. Too much influence from Peter Jackson's wife and the other female writer for Peter to steer clear of this stupidity.

The black haired dwarf on the right looks like a rip off of Aragorn with the hair and beard, bow and arrow on his back, long coat and even the sword is a plain sword and his whole appearance is hardly dwavish compared to the others. I know they probably wrote several "Hero" scenes for this character which I really hope is not too forced for this minor character with short arms and legs.

Like someone pointed out earlier (and in the 2nd Hobbit Video blog clearly shows) Peter Jackson is packing back the pounds! That's a good sign things are going well!

Well, I guess I can kind of see some merit in some of the complaints (to a very small degree). Tolkien was very clear that a Dwarf would rather die than be seen by those of the "alien races" without a full beard.

But I get the impression that, at least in part, they are trying to create a parallel between Merry/Pippin and Fili/Kili, being young and prone to get into trouble and go against propriety.

And they were more or less adolescents compared to the rest of the company, being in the age range of 70-80.

With all that said, I really like the photos we've seen so far. :D

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Let's see we're only missing 6 dwarves: Balin, Dwalin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and of course, last but not least: Thorin Oakenshield. I get the feeling we'll be seeing the whole line-up, including Bilbo, and naturally, Gandalf. Once we have a pic of that, then that's the one worth saving.

Ok, so we've seen the iconic Fellowship cresting over a hill, what will be the signature trademark image of the company of 15?

A much bigger hill :huh

So far all the dwarves have been looking pretty good, not sure I totally like the triangle head one and yes the 'aragorn' one doesn't look a lot like a dwarf, but then at the same time, I guess they aren't born with a big gut and long beard, so what exactly would a young dwarf look like?

If nothing else, they do all so far look rather different, which is important, otherwise you just have 12 clones.

Actually, all dwarves are born with a full beard, and their race is, by the design of their creator (Aulë) very stocky, even at birth (not sure where the "big gut" idea is coming from).

Clearly, they are taking some artistic license with the character designs in the movies, but we don't know the exact reasons why yet.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Pretty sure dwarves can choose to cut their beards though. This may be what his character has chosen to do as a (possible) rebelious-type character.
