Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The 3rd production video was awesome. Love the whole setup but especially the end seeing Chris Lee back in the Saruman getup.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Saruman was never in the The Hobbit...but just the same, I am glad they are expanding on the story. It seems that it will really tie in well with the Lord of the Rings.

But what I wonder is: If they are trying to make heartthrob out of one of the dwarves, why use one that is supposed to die in the battle of five (seven) armies?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

No, he's not they're bringing in part of the White Council to expand the story. It will help flesh out the story and bridge it to the LOTR.

Its just to give something for female fans but he looks really cool at the same time.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yep. The White Council stuff fits because it is going on during the time of the Hobbit. The dwarves and Bilbo wonder why Gandalf ditched them, and we didn't get to find out where he went until the LOTR appendices. That part of the story will be epic on screen.

Not only does it bridge the gap between LOTR and The Hobbit, it also ups the stakes. The Necromancer in the Hobbit is none other than Sauron himself. Gandalf wanted the dragon eliminated so that Sauron could not get his hands on him and use him for evil. I hope they make that clear in the films. That way it's not just about getting the gold back.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Right I think traditional movie people will need that explained to them. For the rest of us it will just make things even more awesome. :rock

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Has anybody heard what context they are using Elijah Wood/Frodo in this movie?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I imagine he would have read the Red Book of Westmarch beginning to end before he began to contribute his part.

Something along the lines of that maybe?

Yeah, I think it would make sense to have him narrating.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, he will be kind of a narrator as well as old Bilbo.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, I thought I read that Bilbo and Frodo will be looking at the Red Book in the beginning (and presumably again at the end).

What I'm curious about is, will it be the "younger" version of Holm's Bilbo (as in, around the time he passed the ring to Frodo), or the later, aged Bilbo from Rivendell?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I thought I read someplace he would be the old version but I may be wrong on that one.
