Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I can't wait to see what Smaug looks like, won't be for some time though:monkey2 I always say I'll avoid pics and spoiler stuff but I end up looking!

I expect we'll get a glimpse of him in the first film and could see the first film ending or near the end with him say opening his eye.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think the films should be titled:

The Hobbit: There
The Hobbit: And
The Hobbit: Back Again

:lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I know the reasons why the titles were chosen. I've read the book, many times. Apparently you aren't getting it though. He changed the title around for the first film, so why not the second one? How is that any different? It's not a sign of disrespect, if it wasn't the first time around. There isn't any one title he could have used, save for the last film in the trilogy, which as you explained, and anyone that's read the book would know, is the subtitle of "The Hobbit" novel. :dunno

Someone's out of aces alright. :lol

Lol, I see what you did there. :D

No, I just to know when to quit when I'm ahead is all. :peace Why try to discuss something with someone who lacks a fundamental understanding of the material? :peace

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think what's throwing people off is the lack of connection to the other titles. (Regardless if they make sense based on the subject matter).

I'd like it more if it was

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Or Just "The Hobbit: The Five Armies"

The Battle of the Five Armies was the other title that they registered. I like it but that's not what the last movie is all about. The last movie is still about Bilbo's journey back home and how he has changed.

Understanding of the material? Oh what, do I have to have some kind of LOTR adornments in my name, title or signature to be on that list? Oh goody, I'll start straight away. Get real, I've read the Middle-Earth books. I'm well aware of the material, even if I didn't do my dissertation on the ****ing **** like some of us.

You may not be intentionally trying to formalute insults with your replies, to my knowledge, but you're doing a good job of it either way. Oh and you are still evading my point. You acted like, and nearly stated, it was a disservice to alter the names of the derived titles when Peter Jackson himself has already done so. I see nothing wrong with an alteration of the second film's heading. Not seeing how that's so hard to grasp and comprehend, much less discuss. Or should I just follow suit and beg him to let me kiss his feet for picking such a gracious title massa!

Good grief, I feel like a woman in the 1920s. Guess I should stick to posting stupid pictures and *****ing about lame toys I'll never buy and become void of any other opinions what-so-ever. :slap

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Leaving it as desolation has more of an impact than changing that word. Its not just about the character Smaug but what he did to Laketown and that area of the North. You of course have the right to feel whatever you want, however you want based on your knowledge. Whatever floats your boat on the subject. :peace

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yes, hence why I said it could even be called the Ruin of Smaug, for what it's worth. I get the reference. It's blatantly obvious. That's not my point. Would he lose the double entendre if he changed the title? Possibly. Er, more than likely.

At any rate, it doesn't matter I guess, because the other two titles act as book ends, as pointed out earlier. It will just have to be the black sheep of the bunch.

By the way... :peace

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Calm down dudes, it's just a (sub)title?:dunno

They can name it anything they want as long as the movie is an epic beast!:peace:rock

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

People just need something to complain about. :lol

Epic beast? Like a dragon? :lol

Least it's about something worth complaining about and not, "oh that belt buckle isn't black, it's charcoal. Not buying that garbage Hot Toys!" :pfft: :wink1:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Maybe if it was a bad title. :wink1:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It was never about it being "bad" actually. And like I said, at least it's not a pretentious complaint about something not being %100 accurate to whatever standards are in place by a collective community of collectors. I don't know about you guys, but I would rather discuss all the aspects of a film, in this case the title, than bicker about the merchandise. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I agree I love cussing and discussing about all of this. That's why I'm here and have 61k+ posts. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Cursing? Who doesn't love a good cursing fest every now and then? We're all sailors here. We sail the interwebs after all. :D
