Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Saruman?

Christopher Lee already alludes to it (@ 6:10)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Anyone else worried they won't get them finished before ermmm...certain people depart this world. Terrible thought I know. And come to think of it probably been brought up already I haven't followed this thread.

Honestly, I'm not worried about it. Just because someone is a certain age doesn't mean that they're going to drop dead tomorrow. I don't know how much of a part Christopher Lee will play in the third movie, but he may have most if not all of it already in the can.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I would venture to guess Mr. Lee's part is done in the movie. As far as what they have left I'd venture to guess it will all be done soon enough and ready to roll when it comes out.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Frodo looks too old and too gaunt to be the Frodo prior to Fellowship of the Ring.

Agreed. It's a nitpick. Ian Holme looks older than he did in the original trilogy too and Martin Freeman doesn't look like Bilbo did in the prologue of FotR, blah blah blah. But the real question then is WHY must they bookend it if it doesn't mesh so well? :dunno

I think they know fans will understand this.

Frodo was around Sam too much and gained weight. :D

No, everyone seems fit and well. None of them are ill as far as i know, unless you know different?

Besides i'd wager most of the filming is done anyway, bar pick-ups.

Yeah.

It's probably the only real nitpick I have. This film takes place, what, a few days or hours before the Fellowship of the ring with Gandalf's return to the Shire? Gandalf, Saruman and the Elves are understandable, they're pretty much immortal but Bilbo and Frodo? I dunno.

Frodo and Bilbo look older, but then, pop in the Fellowship of the Ring and they look younger?

And yeah, even though the Riddles of the Dark is one of my most anticipated moments it is going to be weird/off considering we got a glimpse of it in the Prologue in FOTR. Ian Holm actually did look younger there as Bilbo too.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Of course they look older, there's nothing you can do about aging. Just dust off the ol' suspension of disbelief and enjoy.

They could have gotten rid of them being there. Or used special effects (makeup or CGI). I've seen it done. But no worries, I will just enjoy it all for what it is. I'm getting pretty excited for this movie. :panic:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah it's not like we're saying, "OH, THEY LOOK DIFFERENT, TERRIBLE FILM".

I mean, yeah, it's been over a decade so of course they're not going to look the same.

But they could of done something like, I don't know, have Bilbo narrate the Hobbit story when he's going off to Rivendell (in the Fellowship). Then it'd make sense that you're having an aging Bilbo who looks older (by the time Frodo sees him again he looks much older) and you wouldn't need Frodo (whose probably somewhere in Bree during that time).

There's a reason we said nitpick, I'm not saying it's keeping me up at night. The age differences are just a little jarring.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I can't say I find an issue with it at all. They don't look much different to me and from what we saw in the first trailer it's hard to notice.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm looking forward to seeing where An Unexpected Journey ends.

With Fellowship I remember getting the feeling like it was going to continue into the Two Towers with the ambush at Amon Hen and the breaking of the fellowship. That was until I could feel the film's climax towards the end. That was actually a great ending with Frodo and Sam over looking Emyn Mui and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli going off to "hunt some orc".

Can't wait to see what's in store for this films ending, I think I have an idea.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I believe this is going to end with the eagles rescuing them and getting them out of a hot situation.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think the first of two films would have ended with the capture in Mirkwood, but now that it's a trilogy, the eagle rescue makes sense.

I would devote film one to chapters one through six, ending with the eagle rescue; film two could be chapters seven through twelve, covering all of Mirkwood, the arrival at Esgaroth and Bilbo's encounter with Smaug, ending with his departure and the dwarves trapped in the mountain; film three would cover chapters thirteen through nineteen, with the dwarves at Erebor, Smaug at Lake-Town, and everything through to the climax.

In the end, I do think that there is enough material for three films, especially once you include the side adventures of Gandalf and the White Council.
