Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I won't argue with those who don't like it, but this gets my vote as the best possible way to see a movie. I want to write PJ a letter and thank him for giving me the privilege of seeing what I've just experienced.

No Tom. I am sorry but you are wrong. CelticPeePee said so. :lecture

;)

I am prepared to be the only person in the world who loves 48 fps. Others can hate it, but that won't change the fact that nothing has ever looked so good to my eyes--and those are the only eyes that count when forming my own personal opinion.

My friend took twenty minutes to adjust. So clearly, different people will have different reactions. I can't explain that. I can only speak for myself.

Well now I really want to experience this 48 FPS thing that CelticP claimed would be terrible and no one would enjoy.

Transformers 4 in 48 FPS :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Well, just booked my tix for Fri - I was ALWAYS going to see this in IMAX only; the one will show the nine min ST, plus be in HFR, so I look at it as a win-win....I am very curious about 48 fps, so if it takes me 30 min to adjust, it'll adjust during the slow parts!!!

Just saw this in 3D. My personal opinion is that got see either the HFR 3D version or 2D. I didn't quite like the "ordinary" 3D-version here. But the movie was still good.

9-/10

Hey now, it doesn't bother me if you like the format or not. I'm just afraid it will be implemented to other films, without the use of 3D, which will make the film going experience feel cheap, in my opinion.

I haven't see it yet. So I can't comment. But I just don't like a huge change like this.

I certainly didn't intend to single anybody out or anything like that. I don't think this technology needs to be used for 2D films--the obvious benefit to me is for 3D presentations. It had clarity, depth and smoothness like nothing I've ever seen in a 3D film, and the result was gorgeous and totally immersive. No eye fatigue, ghosting, strobing or motion blur. it removes many of the potential problems of existing 3D presentations. This is a big step forward for fans of 3D, but I agree that it doesn't need to be pushed on traditional 2D film fans.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Will you be going back to see it a 2nd time?

Yes, I already have tickets to see it with my wife on Friday, DBox with regular 3D. My son wants to see it on Saturday, and I'll take him to see it in HFR 3D. I'm not interested in 2D, partly because I prefer 3D and partly because PJ went to great lengths to plan, frame and shoot in 3D and I want to experience the way he envisioned. I think this is a film, like Life of Pi, Avatar, Hugo and Tintin that needs to be seen in its intended 3D format.

Sometimes 3D is a tacked on afterthought or cash grab, but sometimes talented directors use it as a tool for a particular type of visual storytelling. I respect and enjoy that. I also respect the opinion of those who don't enjoy it. But I will definitely disagree with those who say that Ang Lee, Spielberg, Cameron, Jackson and Scorsese are just using it as a gimmick. It can be used as a gimmick, but it can also be used artistically. Like any tool, the ultimate value depends on how it is used.
