Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Yeah, this guy is kind of a tool. I'm glad he liked the movie but he seems like he needs things to just be action. What he doesn't get is that the first 40 mins pretty much follow like the book. That's what I understand from those that have seen it. Its going to be a decent amount of sexposition which is fine by me and you need that at times. Tolkien's work isn't about just action and that is something reviewers need to remember when seeing this. You've got to have action but you've also got to have sexposition.

:horror

Josh, they're Hobbits for christs sake!

And is Peter Jackson on crack? How much weight has he lost? Seriously though I heard this movie is a dream for stoners.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I've listened to "Blunt the Knives" and "The Adventure Begins" so many times today :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I can't imagine a clearer, smoother picture. Best and clearest 3D presentation I've experienced. There was no adjustment period for my eyes, no odd fast motion or any of the criticisms I've heard about the high frame rate. For me, this surpassed anything I've ever seen in a theater and it pains me to think this isn't going to catch on and it might be one of the only chances to see an HFR screening like this. It was like looking out a window onto Middle Earth. My buddy said it took him about twenty minutes to get used to it, but for me it was astonishingly beautiful from the very first frame. So many moments left my jaw hanging open because I'd never seen anything so incredible on a movie screen. I won't argue with those who don't like it, but this gets my vote as the best possible way to see a movie. I want to write PJ a letter and thank him for giving me the privilege of seeing what I've just experienced.

The sick part is that I get what you're describing, I always new that 48 would make for laser sharp 3D.

Like you, I am a 3D junkie. :rotfl

The question is, can you live with seeing the glue that holds their beards on. :rotfl

If you can, then HFR 3D must replace 24 cinema asap. :rotfl

Waits for Celtic, DiFabio, Void and Irish to Hnnnnggggggg. :lol

For me, i'll be honest, I rather see Nolan's Imax future take hold over 48/3D.

But give us the entire movie in 15/70 Imax or GTFO!

I want When Harry Met Sally 2 in 15/70 dammit. :lol

It was not so clear that it looked fake or like sets, etc. It still preserved the illusion that you're watching a fantasy film.

I'll be seeing it in 24 frame 3D on Friday and I'll see how it compares.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm gonna see this the way the STUDIO intended, in the most expensive ticket format:lol. Seriously though, it's pretty ****ed up when you have to choose between about 5 different ways to watch something. Just give us the damn movie!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

As for the movie itself, I loved it! It was leisurely paced, but I found it totally absorbing and loved watching it unfold. Definitely a different pace than you might be used to with LOTR. There was room to breathe and be faithful to Tolkien in a way that surpassed the original trilogy in many ways. When we got to the story of Bullroarer and Golfimbul, I knew that I was in love. This really felt like the first act of a story and not a stand alone film like I think Fellowship achieved. But it surpassed my guarded expectations. I was maybe a bit skeptical going in, but it totally won me over. The only thing I'd single out negatively would be Radagast providing the worst and least effective distraction imaginable. But his character was fine and not even 1% Jar-Jar. He was intentionally eccentric but not too much. I'd say that PJ took fewer liberties with this than with any of the LOTR films, and I loved it.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Nice! Glad you enjoyed all of it Tom. I remain quite confident theirs will be on the level of LOTR.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Score out of 10 tom? And how to do you rank the other 3? (glad you liked it) Getting tickets today.

Will Porn be filmed this way...hmmm

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The HFR is probably so distracting, it's impossible to watch the film on it's own.

Which is why, if you want to see the film, do not go to HFR. Watch the movie the way the movie is supposed to be. 24 beautiful frames per second. :D

How do you tell if a particular showing will have the HFR?

I see myself asking a theatre employee and getting a blank stare in return... :)
