Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Just looked like ****. If you sped them up, and didn't fix them in post top match the frame rate.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

My favorite quotes from the movie

“All good stories deserve embellishment.”

" The world isn't in your books and maps! Its out there."

"Home is now behind you... The world is ahead."

" May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks"

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Agreed Celtic, can make or break a movie. Plus I don't have time to see a movie 2 or 3 times anymore.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm going this afternoon, to a plain old non-IMAX, non-3D, non-HFR film going experience. All of those options are available to me at my local theater, but I don't care about any of them.

I respect Jackson for trying something new, but I have even more respect for him not force-feeding it to the audience. When did the movie going experience become about HOW the story is told on screen rather than the story itself? :dunno

When the likes of Lucas, Cameron and now Jackson started getting hard ons for technology and focusing on it as much as (if not more than) the stories.

Jackson is obviously the less guilty of the 3, but this whole HFR thing... and the preponderance of less than great cgi in this film... shows a disturbing trend.

If filmmakers didn't push boundaries of filmmaking, movies would still be black and white and silent....

I don't agree with the direction these directors Irish mentioned are going with movies, but there are some benefits to CGI and this HFR thing is intended to help the 3D viewing experience, no? I don't care for 3D. If I can see this on an IMAX at 24fps, I'm going to. If not, a regular screen at 24fps will do.

Agreed.

I'll watch this in its intended format to see what I think, but at this point I very much doubt anything can surpass true IMAX analogue film at 24p.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Just do this, see it in 2D, find a point that seems uninteresting, such as the first 45 minutes, grab some 3D glasses from the bin, walk in, and watch.

my eyes hurt after the film. HURT.

LMAO!!! The first 45 min was pretty slow.

I had forgotten about the whole 48fps thing. Apparently we didn't see that because I didn't notice anything different.

Good analogy... Because we really need someone to take us out of the dark ages of hi-def 24fps and IMAX, right? :lol

In other words, when you reach an apex "pushing the boundaries" can often lead to just bursting the bubble entirely. IMHO, we're at that point with 48fps HFR.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Anyone else go to work today after the midnight showing last night? I'm functioning on a little over 2 hours of sleep. My ass is dragging.

I don't touch midnight openings. The "fans" annoy me and it's too darn late. My favorite time to go is a Saturday or Sunday first show. People are still sleeping after a long night of World of Warcraft. :rotfl

Oh, I completely agree with this idea being stupid. But there's nothing wrong in trying something, I'm just happy we have options and won't be subjected to this one format. How is the Bluray gonna look? :monkey4

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'm such a noob. Before I give my impressions, I saw it last night in IMAX 3D and I'm pretty sure the glasses were a little different than the ones they give you for a normal 3D movie? Did I see it in 24fps or 48fps. I didn't see HFR mentioned anywhere. :duh
