just came back from the movie and it was amazing IMAX 3D wow
what a great movie.

its feels great to go back to middle earth once more.
my only let down is that it ended.
dammit a hole year to wait for the next one.

Got back a few hours ago..........

It exceeded my high expectations. Better that ROTK for me, (my least favorite).

9.5/10

Killi is the coolest Dwarf ever.

Also, I asked if they were playing it in HFR, the response I got back was "that's only available in six theaters around the world."

LOLWUT

I'm shocked you said this!

With the opinions that some are having of it, I have to wonder if that isn't true! :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I guess as someone who has read The Hobbit several times, Lord of the Rings, The Appendices, and other materials I didn't find any bloat. Jackson actually gives more depth to several thing within this story that isn't in the book. As a fan of the story I love that and I think if some of you read the books you'd see why.

Therein lies the problem. Most people who will watch The Hobbit wouldn't have read the books.

The film is not made with a pre-supposition or pre-requisite for people to have read the books. Neither were the original films - yet the response to those was overwhelming positive all around.

Therefore, the films must be judged on their own. And on it's own, I found the film to be at least 20-25 mins too long - I didn't have this problem with ANY of the original films. But I still enjoyed Hobbit a lot. Just not as much as any of the original 3.

I'm sure if/when I eventually read the books, i'd appreciate the extra runtime more, but that's not the point.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I am surprised how accurate this movie is to the novels. Ya I can spot changes, but generally it is pretty damn close

The world is divided between those who have read these classics and those who will. You are not in the cool club until you do

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Man can't wait to see the next two. I bet they're going to mirror a bit how Bilbo has changed after his "adventure"(In there and back again) kinda like how Frodo was at the end of ROTK.

Good times, great beginning. Bring on the EE.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

How long till the EE is released? Same deal as last time when the next movie comes out?

Since the movie has a CinemaScore of an "A" it seems most of the world does appreciate it as is, even without having read all that. ;)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Anyone else thinking we might see how Gandalf's staff changes into the one we see in fotr? It looks like the end could unfurl outwards somehow...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Saw it twice yesterday first in Imax 3D then snuck into regular 24 fps....A score of 9.5/10...It didnt drag for me a second...I loved the intro and the beginning Bag End scene...I have no clue how anyone could have thought it was too long..I have no clue how Bag end scene could be thought of as too long....I hated that the film ended...A masterpiece to me...I looked beyong CGI, format, etc etc and just emersed myself in the story...The only reason It's not a 10/10 for me is because was that I thought a few not so neccessary changes to the story were done...I was waiting for a few Quotes from the book to show up but didnt...I would have done some slight changes but otherwise I just loved it...the scenery just magnificent...the Goblin king escape scene went a little over the top(reminded me of IJATTOD) but it was just wonderful...that's it...it was a full house and pretty much all loved it by the reaction...Too long a film, that's just BS ..at least for me...I wanted more but was satisfied...Just loved it...This actually might be my favorite one of all so far...

I hope the Trilogy ends with Gollum leaving his cave going out into the daylight to look for his Precious and Mr. Bagginses and they should show the foundations of Barad-dur starting to build with Mt. Doom just starting to rumble...would be perfecto!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

As for Format If you have a choice of what format to go see it then pick the one you want 24fps, 2d Imax, 3D Imax or 48fps...that's it...I cant worry about formats as long as choices are available

Yes! I was watching his staff thinking the very same.
