Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The only re-use I didn't like was the Nazgul theme because of where it was used.

It's not quite the Nazgul theme. It starts out similar but it's tweaked a bit. Plus it may tie into info we find out later.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Nice! Got a few more viewings of the theatrical release but I am looking forward to the extended version.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The extended version should be a shorter version. What the hell else did they need to put into this thing? It's way too long.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Well, to us non LOTR fans, it was too damn long. Now, not to a point that it really bored me, or ruined the film...but there were things that didn't really matter to the central plot.

You could've easily cut half of the Shire stuff, the rock scene, while cool, was pointless, the council scene should've been shortened, I didn't really see a point in the Radagast stuff.

Sometimes you have to make the best film you can, verses making the most accurate.

I'm not speaking as a non-LOTR fan. I get for some those points you made are valid though I admit I'm not too concerned with them. That's not to be rude or anything but I'd be more concerned if fans of Middle-earth felt the same way.

Edit: I also think you mean to some non-Lord of the Rings fans it was too damn long. I don't think "all" can be said by anyone. :lol

How rude. Reported.

:lol but no. It's a slippery slope when it comes to adaptations. How much do you keep, how much do you take out. Will the fans appreciate this? Will they hate this? Love it? Feel indifferent?

Eh. It's a silly game.

Probably not the first person. :lol :lol :lol I try not to be rude because I'm not but also I value being on the staff at TORn and you can't go acting like a jerk. So I try to be be me but not a butt. :lol Though thats more info than anyone cares about. :lol

It is. For me he did it both times with Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Some of what I've seen a few of you hear want cut out would really cut from the source. It would hurt the story and how it plays out. Obviously as we see some of you that aren't attached to this or haven't read the books don't mind some book elements cut out. So you're right its a slippery slope.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I'd rather err on the side of too much than too little. Most adaptations tend to get worse reps for what they leave out or what they don't cover thoroughly.

Now granted the average movie-goer is not going to get all of the nuances of this film, but then again I really don't think PJ meant for this to be a movie that would work for everyone.

Honestly, if you've never read the Hobbit, you would still have to have some idea of what you're getting into. By now everyone is aware of how long the LOTR movies were and how much longer the extended cuts are. If you go into the Hobbit knowing it has a 2hr 46min run time and not expect the same thing that happened ten years ago, then maybe you have yourself to blame.

(Please note, when I state "you" I'm not directing that at anyone in particualr)

Go watch the cartoon...

:sigh: If this movie was made just for diehard fans of the book it wouldn't even have sniffed the $84 million this weekend.

No kidding in that regards.....there's so many close to 3hr films out there that are just great...IMHO Hobbit is definetely one of of them...I also didnt want it to end...for me it was the best film of 2012...we will have to see what the worldwide box office says till January and if the masses agree with the critics of this film...so far good start

Nobody is saying that but you have to target them so you don't alienate them. That's your base and the most likely people to keep seeing it over and over. Why make a movie or movies on The Hobbit and start cutting things out of it that make it The Hobbit. That to me is no different than your ranting about Nolan not really making Batman Batman in the TDKR because he quit and acted like a idiot.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Saw it yesterday. Loved it! Going back Christmas week to see it again. Riddles in the dark was better than I had hoped.
