Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Some people make me laugh. The Hobbit is a cash grab or too long because it was one book made into three movies with a total running time of let's say nine hours. I haven't heard anyone or any critics complain that Game of Thrones is a cash grab or too long. Guess what, the first season was based on one book and when you combine the episodes had a running time of about nine hours. What's the difference other than one is a TV series while the other is movie.

Hey haters, go **** yourselves. :love :wave

The funny part is that you think I'm a hater.

I gotta disagree a little. A single Game of Thrones book is over 1000 pages. The Hobbit is what just over 300? There is no reason why they couldn't have made this 1 or 2 (at most) movies. I'm convinced that if they could make each LOTR book into a single film they could have done it with the Hobbit.

I'm still not sure I like the fact this is split into three parts? I have to watch them all of course. I did love the first movie. :rock

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

They coulda done it in two like they were gonna originally no problem. But i am not gonna complain about another movie, fine by me.

But i say it is what it is let's move on now.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Sorry Keith 1 movie would have been a terrible idea. You would have had no time to give anything any real depth something you can do more in 2 and much more in 3. They were able to do 1 movie of each book from The Lord of the Rings for reasons I stated earlier. As someone whose read the book a few times I feel really confident in that the approach taken both times is the right way to go.

The Hobbit got 3 Oscar Noms today.

Makeup and Hairstyling and Visual Effects were shoo ins. I wasn't entirely sure on Production Design because although it was a stellar job, the revisited locations left me a little unsure. Overall, the academy awards pretty much went as expected.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I thought it would get score and cinematography. I was hoping with 10 films in BP it would get one of the 10 and at least be nominated. Ah well.

What is it the haters don't get? The appendices have been added in. It's not just the "300 pages" or so of the Hobbit. It's not. Please stop saying this.

Sure it could have been done in one movie. Then you'd have no background on the Dwarves, the battle of the five armies would be at most a minute in length (Bilbo is knocked out right at the start and wakes up only at the end having missed the whole thing). The Hobbit is written from Bilbo's perspective so that would be crap. You'd also never see the white council's assault on Dol Guldur. In fact you might not know about the Necromancer at all.

Thorin's and Azog's history would be non existant, making the pale orc much less valued. Riddles in the Dark would need to be truncated in order to make time.

You'd probably have to cut out Beorn completly to save time. Maybe even skim the Dwarf capture by Thranduil.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I'm not going to address your post since you haven't bothered to read mine. :rotfl

I "hater" would be someone that "hated" the movie. :slap

Costume design should be in there too IMO.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

This movie was 2 hours and 45 mins of actual film. That's shorter than any of the TE versions of The Lord of the Rings. Even with the EE its only going to be about 3 hours and still shorter than the previous 3. When you add in stuff from the appencies and give more depth to whats in the book you get what's more than 300 pages. Also, as I said there are several things cut out of each of The Lord of the Rings books in order to not have 2 movies per book. Jackson actually helped make The Lord of the Rings better for the GA by taking stuff out that they would have gotten bored with, and did the same by adding things to The Hobbit. In the end I think folks will see it all worked.

Besides I'm not trying to be right or wrong. I just find it cool people are discussing Middle-earth again here. :rock

FYI the number of pages per book in The Lord of the Rings
The Fellowship of the Ring 531pgs
The Two Towers 416pgs
The Return of the King 624pgs

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Or beats a dead horse about a topic that has been explained ad nauseum.

I wouldn't call Keith a hater. He likes the movie and outside of the whole 1, 2, or 3 doesn't seem to have much of an issue.

Costume design should be in there too IMO.

That surprised me as well.
