Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I believe that the trolls that are basically slaves/warriors/work horses are those that just dont talk and are not supposed to...they are meant to and are trained for business only...Bert,Tom and Billy basically have no master and are just chillin out for the last few thousand years...probrably escaped from Morgoths Army after the fall of Gondolin or the final battle with the Valars forces with leftover treasures from Gondolin and now talk up a storm like 3 good buddies do...Pals and mates for life...JMHO of course but it's how I interpreted it from both the books and films....Trolls were meant originally dumb but poerful servants when first created by Morgoth

That makes sense to me.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I feel the same way about Prometheus, but everyone ruined that.

So hopefully you'll still have fun talking about The Hobbit for years to come. :(

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I could watch a full film of just Hobbits living their lives in the Shire, and I would LOSE MY ****.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

There is a theory that trolls are twisted perversions of ents l, much like orcs are to elves.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I was looking through the Hobbit Chronicles art book (definitely recommend it).

Originally, the Goblins looked JUST like the Moria Orcs/Goblins from the Fellowship of the Ring for the Hobbit. They were going to have the same green, light deprived skin. The yellow, sickly eyes. The widows peak, etc.

I guess they were going to have armor and everything, just like the Moria Orcs until they decided every creature would be CGI. It showed how the designs devolved to the Goblins we got now. They got worse with each design in my opinion.

Sort of a shame. I wish they kept the Misty Mountain Goblins looking like the orc goblins from LOTR.

They should have because Goblins and Orcs are interchangeable.

Now that's a real goblin

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

The goblins looked great IMO. It's nice to see some separation in the species.

There is one design in the goblin section that resembles anything like what was in The Lord of the Rings. Everything else more resembles what we saw. Also in that section it talks about how they would all be CGI and ended up with more men I suits.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

This talk of goblins and the book I thought I'd snap a couple quick pics and share.

It is. If you're a fan of the story it's worth a buy.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Thanks! DF was talking about the book and the goblin section figured if share a page or two. Plus it has some text I thought valuable to the discussion at the time.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

I think he means, like people, we're all different. Same species, but we do have different looks from each other.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

And I believe, personally, that the orcs in Moria (in the Fellowship of the Ring) ARE Goblins.

They're underground, they're smaller than regular orcs, live in caverns, have slave trolls and Legolas even sees their arrows and states, "GOBLINS".

I mean, they're from the Misty Mountains are they not?
