Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Dumb! It's the studio not Jackson who is after the money!

So they added one more movie oh noes! I in fact am all for it. (even if it is a $ grab)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Jackson wanted to make it a trilogy to add more of the Middle-earth history that connects the two seperate stories. As a fan of Middle-earth I don't give a rats backside if it was about money or not (Its win/win for Jackson as it does get him more money and he cares about the world Tolkien created). I'm going to get more time in my favorite fictional realm. :rock

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

It's funny that a lot of casual fans see The Hobbit being three movies as a money grab. I personally wish it could be stretched to like six movies. There are so many interesting events in the history of Middle-Earth which tie into The Lord Of The Rings that could be explored.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Its a fine line you walk. There are events added to The Hobbit which help tie the two series together. I have no problem with that as I think it helps make The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and Middle-earth on film better. I think thats one of the things that seperate the GA/Casual Fan from folks like myself who are a bit more invested in the world.

Yeah, I agree. There's only so much from the apendicies that can be included in The Hobbit that would be relevant. I would love to see movies based on the appendicies, but I know that's never gonna happen. So I'll have to take whatever I can get with The Hobbit movies.

Pretty much. Pack in what makes sense and ties it all together and fans of Middle-earth will enjoy it I believe.

:D :hi5:

I just ordered The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Chronicles: Art & Design off of Amazon. :rock :yess:

That's because they have NO CLUE at all about the book or about movie making. If they made The Hobbit one movie, it would've been a mess. I think when all three movies have been released, people will understand why there was 3 movies.

Each LOTR book was made into one movie. . . . and they were longer. . .

It would have been terrible to be honest. People would have felt nothing for any of the characters. Maybe some for Bilbo, Gandalf, and Thorin but the rest of them they would've cared less for the rest than they did after part 1. Tolkien doesn't give a lot of info on the rest of the Dwarves and everything would have been so smushed together. The Hobbit to be properly fleshed out needed at least two movies and then adding the material to tie both stories together makes 3.

Now, I know as Zach said the 3 The Lord of the Rings books each only got one movie. The thing is Jackson actually cut as much out as he added. In FOTR you lost the barrow downs and Tom Bombadil (thank goodness), Frodo/Sam don't meet the Wood Elves for as long of a time, farmer maggots farm, and that allowed him to move Boromir's death from the start of The Two Towers to the end of The Fellowship of the Ring (made more sense to do that). The Lord of the Rings is compressed but to be honest while every part reading is fun (even Tom Bombadil) some of it would have made for not so great movie stuff. Also, in The Return of the King the Battle of Pelennor Fields doesn't get a lot nor does the Battle of Helm's Deep but the movie gives you more time there. In the end what Jackson is doing makes sense at least to me as someone who has read all the books numerous times.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread *SPOILERS*

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they are making it into the trilogy and I do agree that the character development will benefit the most from it. But it could had still be done in 2 movies.

I'm not going to complain for having another flick in middle earth though. :lol
