What a disaster if it goes ahead - so many people won't be getting the work they would have done if The Hobbit stays in NZ - but from a selfish point of view, if it came to Britain that would be great for us! Just bring all the designers and artists too!
I can't believe that so few will disrupt the work of so many - i still can't see it being moved though. Surely common sense will come through?

____ it. Ditch all the sets and start this thing with a clean slate. Let NZ cry bout the millions in lost revenue because of a bunch of stingy pricks who wanted to get themselves in the papers. In the end, with Jackson at the helm and his love of the source material, the movie will be great no matter where it's shot.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Sounds like some folks got a little big in their britches and bit off more than you can chew.

:goodpost:

A carbon copy of Hobbiton can be found almost anywhere.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Obviously i want it to stay in NZ, but if it came to the UK and Ireland, personally i would love that. It'd be easier for me to get to the locations! Plus Middle-Earth was based largely on the UK too...
But i want it to stay in NZ. Can you imagine going to the cinema and seeing a Hobbiton that wasn't in Matamata??

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

One silver lining is that a move to British and/or European sets means that Christopher Lee may be able to reprise the role of Saruman after all (although I always wondered how much of his stated reservations about going back to NZ were just sour grapes over his deleted scene in RotK; he's visited the States often enough in recent years.)

Isn't he like almost 90?! I believe that's why he'd rather stay at home. And I don't see any reason why they couldn't oblige him and greenscreen his shots into the film. :huh

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

He's well into his 90's I think?...
As for the films being shot elsewhere, I'm not the least bit bothered. The world is a big place and NZ isn't the only country with beautiful locations...Anyone seen a film called Krull?? I think the location work was done in Italy. Some of the scenary was breathtaking no joke.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Christopher Lee is currently 88, will be 89 next year.

As for moving filming, from a scenery point of view, I don't think the UK or Europe would be a problem, the issue however is that all the pre-production work has been done in NZ. They started rebuilding Hobbiton a year or so ago, I was reading how with LOTR, PJ would walk into Weta and ask for 50 of something and need it for filming in 2 days.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Born: Christopher Frank Carandini Lee
May 27, 1922 in Belgravia, London, England, UK

So he is 88 currently...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Only 88?...fly him over economy class he'll be fine!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

In the spirit that is both LOTR and The Hobbit it just wont feel the same if its not filmed in Middle Earth NZ.

If you know what it means to the country and its people i cant see how anyone would want to see it filmed anywhere else unless of course that is the only remaining option.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It sounds like it all depends on Monday when the studio comes to NZ. I'm sure that PJ and everyone else can assure them that they should film in NZ. I'm even hopeful that this Helen Kelly woman can convince them too, after all everyone wants to see these films made in NZ.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

yes but RED,it was interesting to hear that SAG of Australia got this going???
So yes,as an Aussie im might pissed off that some idiot started stuff that could have been avoided!!
Unions are important for better pay and working conditions..but im sure this could have been done with less fuss!!!
It WONT be the same if they take it OS...leave it NZ-they deserve this-and PJ could do without the crap-so much bad has gone on for this movie-let them be to make it now!!!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

They could always "Weekend at Bernie's" his scenes if he croaks on the plane. :huh

Ha Weekend at Saruman's could be a winner if the worst happens. Man, i've got to buy Weekend at Bernie's. Not seen it for years..

Apparently it doesn't mean much to the country or people given they're the ones who helped stir up this mess. I say good riddance. Make it elsewhere and let them whine about the lost revenue the film being there would produce. It's pretty pathetic to attack the production for this BS and then cry about it when they close up shop and move.

I just want to see the films made. I don't care where they're filmed. The production needs a clean slate anyway and I have faith the films'll fit in perfectly with LOTR if they're shot in NZ, Scotland, Italy or a studio.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Amazing what greed will do for some people. On one hand, I would be bummed if NZ wasnt the locaton. On the other, I will be REALLY BUMMED if the movie never happened.

Cooperate or "DIE", NZ!
