Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The Elves are going to need a major overhaul as they seem vastly different in the Hobbit story and the LOTR films, more whimsical etc. I wonder if we will get the spider attack in Mirkwood or will it be to much like 'Harry Potter and Aragog' encounter?

Either way, I have faith in PJ to pull out the best result! (he's had enough time :nana:)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

^^ PJ won't make a film radically different from the original trilogy, despite the books differing in tone, it wouldn't make sense to do the same on screen as it would alienate the audience to a degree. The difference will be in the fact that they are set decades apart. Hopefully this passage in time will somehow be translated into the film...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't think the elves will need an overhaul. You can be beautiful and still be a bunch of a-holes.

Exactly. Part of the reason why PJ has needed to jump through so many hoops to get this thing into production was so that he can preserve the same tone as LOTR. These will not be kiddie movies.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Making The Hobbit into a children's movie would be the ultimate sin. There would be no forgiveness.

TORn are reporting that they are pretty sure that Sylvester McCoy has been cast as Radagast the Brown. :rock

One of my favorite Doctors. :)

Oooh, that would be good casting! I believe nothing till I see it from official sources, but I like the cut of your gib, sir.

The spider attack better be in there. It's badass, and it's how Sting got it's name. And screw Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling ripped off Tolkien, not the other way around.

I agree, however LOTR shows Legolas being impervious to the effects of alcohol, but the dwarves are able to escape in the Hobbit because an elf gets tanked.

Don't remember him being in the Hobbit.

I'm assuming we will see him as a member of the White Council.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I believe the Troll from Khazad Dum and the Troll from the battle at the Black gate/Seige of the White Tower were not the same kind of Troll as the ones in The Hobbit. They didn't even look the same as the statues from FotR. So I will have no problem if these ones speak.

:lecture

Also the fact that the stone trolls turned to stone in daylight and the others did not...

Oooh! Good question! I hope so!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Pretty sure it's been officially announced by Shore himself that he has already begun work on the Hobbit.

Yeah, he said a while back he would be back. I think TORN reported it.

What a disaster if it goes ahead - so many people won't be getting the work they would have done if The Hobbit stays in NZ - but from a selfish point of view, if it came to Britain that would be great for us! Just bring all the designers and artists too!
I can't believe that so few will disrupt the work of so many - i still can't see it being moved though. Surely common sense will come through?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Does this mean that the Hobbiton set will not be used?
