Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It's unknown incest. Nienor forgets who she is and Turin hasn't seen her since she was a child, or possibly a baby, so they feel a connection but don't know what it is, and think it's love until the evil dragon Glaurung reveals the truth. It's sad but isn't as bad as it sounds ;)

*wonders what a Tolkien film directed by Tim Burton would look like...*

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

This appies to me too :lol

I've had the book for ages, just not got round to reading it.
Having said that if what Mags says about the story is true (incest and suicide) then I'm glad I didn't and now I won't.
x :peace

There's nothing perverse in the text. And the incest and suicide in it feels a lot like the elements of tragedy in a Shakespeare play. Don't skip it because of anything I said! :panic:

Very well written stuff. Sad, but powerful.

Hmm... as much as I love Burton, not sure I'd want to see it. But I do wonder what it would look like...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Seems to me that Tim Burton's preference is films that involve a real element of quirkiness. It could be interesting to see some of the sets he would come up with though; he has IMO a great eye for creating a powerfully distinct "feel" through atmosphere.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

You guys year about the earthquake in NZ. Sad. I wonder if it's affected production too.

I was just popping into this thread to see if anyone knows where it was centered as well as how it would effect production. Obviously I pray for the people and families but one has to think that a higher power is seriously trying to make sure these movies aren't getting made...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I looked at torn at it doesn't appear to be in the area in where filming will be as far as that goes. There are at least 65 dead according to the article below.

NZ Earthquake

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Hopefully not but I think the death toll from the quake will be higher unfortunately, my thoughts are with the poor families and pepople who may have lost someone in this quake. It may or may not affect filming on these movies but so what, lives and livelihoods are lost from this, at the end fo the day it's only a movie.:pray::pray:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

At least 65 people dead, but yeah people, let's hope to GOD it won't delay filming AGAIN on this cursed project!

(That was sarcasm by the way. Get a grip on the real issues people)

Oh, I'm skipping it.
It's not the incest that bugs me, i just can't watch/read anything to do with suicide. So I'm not gonna touch it.
Anyone want a book? :lol
I'll prolly keep it, just not gonna read it t'is all.

Well said.
I'm not a praying person but my thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy and I hope all our NZ peeps are okay.
I don't watch the news so only found out about this today from browsing the net and from the bits I've seent it really is horrific. I wish everyone well and hope that the death toll does not increase, 65 is already too many :(
Be safe everyone.

To give you a spoiler, the suicides are jumping off a cliff and falling on a sword. It doesn't get any worse than that ;)
But if it does bother you, stick to the Silmarillion. Have you read that?

If you are disturbed by the end of Hamlet, for example, then you are making the right choice.

I, however, think it's beautiful in its tragedy.

And that's how it ends. No light at the end of the tunnel.
