Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Since they're filming, I wonder if they're gonna bring any footage to SDCC this year?

Last year, Jon Favreau showed 8 minutes of COWBOYS & ALIENS just 2 weeks after filming started, complete with effects. So you never know...

That would be pretty damn awesome if they did. Thats one panel I will wait in line forever for.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I saw the video link in elijah woods tweet. It made me all
warm and fuzzie from inside :monkey2
when i saw the the films back in 03 2 and 1 they were
the best thing in the world to me even better then the original star wars trilogy if not just as good!
I bet this will be just as good if not better cant wait! :clap:yess:

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

i agree with you Njits!!
as a massive SW fan since i was 4,im now 34 and was totally blown away with the LOTR trilogy. There is definately a lot of heart and soul put into these 3 films and they are easily rewatchable everytime, same as Star Wars.Words cannot describe the anticipation for the Hobbit movies!! and i do hope to see some footage come out later on in the year!

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Just looking at Sting there, and it doesn't have the elvish script on it yet. Now i'm wondering whether they literally just hadn't put it on that particular sword yet as the camera was on it, or whether that is indeed the final design when Bilbo first get's it, and the inscription is put on later by Bilbo? Maybe at Rivendell?

What's Elijah's tweet name?

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I broke down and joined Facebook just for the updates for this. Something I said I'd never do, but PJ pulled me in. :lol

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Kind of surprised to read that Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom will be returning for The Hobbit. Bloom I can understand but wonder how they will have Elijah Wood in it.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Thought he was gonna be a kinda narrator telling the story to young hobbits.

/dunno

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Oh man, what a great video. It reminds me of the preproduction footage that they had for the Fellowship over a decade ago. It's so hard to believe that it's been that long.

I can't wait to see this.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Actually i don't think the book mentions sting having any runes. We know that glamdring and orcrist both had runes because elrond read them out at rivendell, but sting was merely referred to as a knife at that point and was named sting only later on in the story. But as a fan of the swords, i really hope they stick to the lotr designs for both glamdring and sting.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It looked like Peter to me.

Yeah, sword making is quite a specialized craft with lots of trade secrets learnt through trial and error.. Not sure if modern-day swordsmiths are inclined to take on apprentices and helping them break into the market.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

The books does mention that sting (what ever it's real name is... I can't recall) was made by the same elves.. so I think it is likely that if one had runes then the other would as well. Clearly they were still making the sword, so it likely that they just haven't engraved the runes onto the blade yet.

Sorry my bad
"In the books there is no mention that Bilbo had the blade inscribed, so it remains unknown whether it is by coincidence that Sting's inscription has something to do with spiders and Bilbo 'stinging' giant spiders with it, or that Bilbo got it inscribed during the story of The Hobbit or after. Or it could be due to the fact that Gondolin was near the Nan Dungortheb and that the offspring of Ungoliant would sometimes attack Gondolin by developing a taste for Elven flesh. And if this was the case, it would be "At times like these, my lad, that you need to be extra-careful.""
