Anyway, I like PREDATOR 2 more.

I love both of them, Predator 1 more obviously, but Predator 2 is very close.

If I was ever surprised of the Predator 2 hate, now I'm just contemptuous towards it, such a weird, inexplicable consensus.

Outside of the line drop I don't understand why people compare Harrigan to Murtaugh.
They're pretty damn different characters. And Harrigan is freakin' awesome.

They're both detectives that use big guns :dunno

I don't equate them as the same person, it's just a stupid canon I have in my head.

I know, but a lot of people compare them. Which is stupid.
One is law-abiding old family cop. The other is energetic troublemaking crimefighter.

Predator 2 and robocop are such a wonderful double feature.
They dont really have story in common but for me the style fits well with each other and the characters are similar and the cities feel similar
It is such a great futuristic 90s double feature.

think about it.
frank castle without the wife and kids.
john mclane divorced.
john matrix widowed.
martin riggs widowed...kinda lost some cred when he got involved again.
rambo, never had time for ********.
robocop, lost his popo and his nuts. bye bye wife.

come to think of it, was there anybody happily married with kids action icon?:lol

The base attack wasn't directed by JT, and it doesn't half show compared to the rest of the movie. I think it's unfair to call the rest of the editing choppy as it's better than many give it credit for.
What? So part of the film shouldn't be up for criticism because someone else director those scenes? What about JL then?

Look a 7.5/10 is not a bad score on my system....

But its not Jaws, BTTF or the Godfather by any means...

I didn't say that at all. I just mentioned it as you specifically referred to that scene and I thought it might be an interesting fact. I posted the video as it's a good watch and it points out many nuances in the editing that many people haven't really noticed. I genuinely don't care how much or how little you like Predator.

Few directors have been able to do what predator 1 did.
Actually i dont think any other director has pull off something like that.

No other movie has all these elements so perfectly put together.

Even the shootout scene isn't bad, it's a serviceable use of resources, and it's only so noticeable due to the quality disparity compared to the rest of the movie, it's still very enjoyable and has some cool shots.

the shoot out scene works on distracting you and giving you a sense of safety
it makes you think "ok they are on top of things and they can bring it if they get attacked, they can defend themselves and they are capable of defeating any threat.

Since they are seeing creepy things from the beginning and they are being stalked, the shoot out scene works perfectly to make you let your guard down and just think of it as a regular action movie.
Not only are these people living well and safe while theres something creepy in the woods (Something I always think about, those people didnt fear living there or working there, they seemed okay) this lets you think that whatever they will go against cant be that bad.
seeing these people go into their every day lives in the jungle gives you a false sense of safety.

And seeing our heroes dispose of them so quickly and efficiently makes us think that they can succeed or that they are very strong opponents.

the scene is so perfect in doing that, that when the hunt starts it really hits you hard and makes you feel nervous and stressed out because not only does the predator show you that hes much stronger and scarier than you thought, but that our heroes are extremely weak and the hunt even makes you wish those other people in the jungle were alive to join the fight against the predator.
thats the beauty of that shoot out scene. it sets up the rest of the movie so perfectly. it makes you think you are about to watch a regular loud action movie with a lot of shooting but then it turns the tables on you and that shock makes it so much scarier

In fact the shoot out scene might be the MOST important scene of the movie because of how drastic the change is and how big the set up is.
how much it goes from having our heroes be the biggest most hardcore badasses that can defeat anyone and can take out anything and they are extremely prepared and well trained and they work well together,

to make them defenseless and powerless little kids in front of the predator. the shoot out scene messes up with your expectations so much that it really is the most important part of the movie in question to the set up and expectations. what comes next is the turning point of the movie. the point of no return

(they also learn they were lied to and they were not rescuing anyone)
