PREDATOR is as perfect as it could get.

80's B-movie cheese.
Great cast of memorable characters played by charismatic people.
Winston Studios in their prime doin' the best they could with the given budget.
Great cinematography, editing, sound work and music.

It shouldn't have been anything more than just another brainless bland action flick, and yet...

Rewatched Predator this week...

7.5/10

Still a fun film, showing it’s age terribly

That's nothing. Some people still think that AvPR was crap only because it felt like a B-movie. Even tho that's exactly what original PREDATOR is... :lol

The original is indeed a B-movie, but I wouldn't quite classify AVP-R as such. There are B-movies that are good at what they do and then there are complacent, C- or D-quality slasher flicks aimed at teens who just want *** and gore. Requiem is the latter. The Strauss Bros. were convinced they knew what people wanted out of these franchises, yet they may as well have put out the umpteenth Halloween.

Pretty unorthodox opinion on a geek movie forum! Personally, I love it so damn much, and have since I was a youngster. Just about perfect for what it is supposed to be. I haven't seen it for a few years, so it's probably due for another watch.

Predator is not a flawless film by any means but it's so damn macho and fun that I would never tire watching it. Can't say the same about the others films.

What are the flaws?

Edit - I see what you listed and agree to disagree.

"The Predator" by Shane Black (2018)

As I said, it’s just showing it’s age.

Ask me at 16 and it’s a 9/10....30’years later? Not a 9/10 anymore. And the editing is terrible...plenty of errors all over the place for continuity if you look.

Cinematography?? It’s not that great either....plenty of generic shots...hell,
the big stunt of Arnold falling down the waterfall is totally out of focus....

It’s a great film, but it’s got its flaws if you look at it objectively now. The character are just about perfect , except the girl...she’s unintelligible....

The effects are good in respect to the Predator, but the repetitive explosions in the base attack are just silly, as is the fire gags....obvious they were landing on fluff ground mats....

It’s a great film, but to say it’s 9/10 now is insulting to films that are a 9/10....

It’s showing it’s age in the sense of the bad effects and choppy editing.....it was always a second tier film, that was made great by the characters and last 15 minutes.

The scene where they attack the base is really cheesy fun, but it’s very poorly edited and shot.

The base attack wasn't directed by JT, and it doesn't half show compared to the rest of the movie. I think it's unfair to call the rest of the editing choppy as it's better than many give it credit for.

Here's a good breakdown of what made the original Predator so good....
