Yeah... no.
It's just an generic boring lookin' bug-man alien.
Plus he's completely naked...
Awful design all around.

____

Remember DNA, anyone?
That creature was the same gemeric lookin' crap but with a dino-like head.

Generic yeah but still pretty 80's. Again i'm glad it was never used looks out of place but still think it's pretty cool looking outside of Predator.

I don't hate that design, would make a pretty kickass Ultra Man villain.

I'm no Ultraman fan but isn't there one that looks like the proto Predator?

Huh? Why not?

Plus I'm 90% sure the design they used for the "contact" scene is the final one.

The glowing eyes were always a cheeky taunt for me.

This. I always saw it as "No, you're not seeing things. I'm right here, but you can't kill me anyway, pleb."

So it gives the Predator a personality? :lol

I guess? I can buy it coming from a bug alien, but a tactical hunter with invisibility, stealth skills, and advance technology? Eh...kind of, if it's a taunt, but it's such a tactical mistake. No wonder he got killed. :lol

It mimics voices to **** with it's prey. It enjoys torturing people to death and leaving the bodies as a method of mental warfare of any incoming prey. It's a sentient being. Is it really hard to believe that it has a personality?

Eh, yeah?

He leaves skinned bodies hanging upside down as psychological warfare, just like he left Hawkings guts there for Poncho to find, he mocks his prey by using the voices of his fallen friends, he killed Poncho just so that Dutch did have to carry him around, he disabled Dutch weapon so that he could face him close quarters...

And remember the deleted scene where he toys around with Dutch making him zig zag with his blow-dryer canon as he runs for his life?

Falls right in line with taunting Mac right after he killed his best friend.

How does he not have a personality? He's always had a personality. His personality is that he's an ***hole. :lol

A taunt is a tactical tool. Me made Mac lose his mind to a point that he only had to walk to him and blow his head off.

Before Mac died he was almost as mad a Jye shilling for Disney.

I don't buy any of that as a personality trait, if they're just tactical techniques that he learned. However, he did have a sweat skull collection that he carried with him and played with...I'll give him that, plus the laugh at the end. I could see him being a SSF member. :lol

^^ :lol

Hmm...then maybe the Winston Predator creature never meant to have flashing eyes.
How so? I don't see the connection.

Plus he also flashes his eyes to Dillon in the same taunting manner before he cuts his arm off.

If you rewatch both scenes, you can see the shape of the cloaked predator is the final design, you can see the back pack, the neck isn't long and the head isn't small and elongated, it looks like it's the final head just without the dreads-

Plus those effects were added in post, which was a final decision and not an early decision they were forced to keep.

I don't know, the evidence doesn't seem to lean towards the premise that it wasn't an intentional artistic decision.[/QUOTE]

It may have been inherited from the Chicken Lizard...
I think it inherited it form Chicken Lizard, and like you said, it fits so well, that it was a no brainer to keep it.

I wonder if it was McTiernan who made the decision, seems like his resourceful and ingenious artistic economy.

It may have been inherited from the Chicken Lizard... but thematically I think it suits it. It cannot communicate with the characters per se nor to the audience, but it works.

I never had a problem with it when I saw the film. I didn't know about the chicken lizard until a few years ago, so I never thought about the glowing eyes until today when I saw the lizard. It's such a different character. The eye flashing is a nice gimmick along with the other weapons.

His laser gun always scared me.

He kills most of the team with that thing.

I never knew what the hell he hit Blaine with before he blew his chest out since it's not entirely clear, but he tried to hit him with a speaR gun that grazed him and he's splattered with blood. And I guess they recycled it into P2.

Here's the thing, the Predator doesn't do what he does because he's an operator on a mission, an operator on a mission would aim for the upmost efficiency, not wasting time or effort on his kills.

The predator isn't an operator on a mission, he's hunting, if he's hunting that means he's doing it for thrills, he finds enjoyment out of it, and many of the things he does to scare his prey aren't the most efficient ones, because there's no fun there...

He could've killed Mac right then and there, instead he flashed him and left him with his brain scrambled, he could kill Dillon right away, instead he chopped his arm and killed him with his blades.

There is no way that doesn't denote personality.

And the fact that he laughs at the end, he's a smart creature, he knows what laughter is, seals the deal on the premise that is a personality.

It's an intelligent creature, it's also savage, which manifest in it saving trophies, how on earth is none of that a personality?

Oh, another proof of personality, the fact that he removes all his weapons and mask to face Dutch... A tactical decision is supposed to save you time and effort, not do the opposite, this was pure thrill, enjoying thrill is a personality trait.

That "mother****er" line in Predator 2 certainly was his personality showing. Then there's "want some candy?" At the end of the first movie, when he's pinned under the log, he activates his self destruct device and he starts laughing until he dies.

Hmm...doesn't Jason (Friday 13 films) do that also in the movies? Does he have a personality too? Maybe he does...I don't know.
