No offense, but I never understood why people got so excited about pro wrestling, at least of the WWE variety.

Dose everybody that watch it know it's choreographed, i.e. fake? Or are there guys that believe they are real fights?

There is no doubt that these guys are real athletes and in some cases excellent entertainers, but I was always turned off by it (even as a teenager) because it seemed so canned.

Can y'all enlighten me on the appeal?

Also, I thought it was always fake blood. Wish I had seen these pics of a real blood on a pro wrestler. What's the story behind that?

It's 100% real and if you don't believe it I will chokeslam your candy ass.

movies are fake, and yet i enjoy them too. is it any different? it's like a ballet for the bloodthirsty. some of these guys craft a story in the ring, and they amaze us with how they move. i guess you either see the appeal or you don't :dunno

and i thought the blood was always real? or at least that blading was more common than fake blood. never heard of anyone using fake blood in any of the biographies i've read.

What's blading?

And how did Flair get bloody in the pics in question?

it's kinda sick actually. but flair certainly loved doing it (hence the bloody pics). wrestlers plan to be "busted wide open" at a certain point in the match when they go over the main spots beforehand. they cut a razor blade into a tiny piece and put a small piece of tape over it and tape it onto their other taping e.g. wrist. then when they get hit by a chair or ring post or something, they go down and very discretely untape the blade and make a small incision in their forehead. you notice the camera doesn't focus on them when they go down sometimes.

some of these older guys like dusty rhodes bear some serious scars from overdoing it. their foreheads are all effed up.

wow. this "sport" is retarded. :lecture

I still dont get why wrestling fans have to justify or explain why they like it :dunno

As if liking it makes you less intelligent or a idiot. :monkey4

Why do people enjoy rednecks driving around a circle for hours and hours? Why do people enjoy old farts smacking a little ball around a course for days and days? Why do people enjoy Dancing with ____ing the Stars? :duh

WHO THE ____ CARES WHY!!!!! :pfft:

balding gets the chicks, it show experience...

it's also a sign of virility and saves you a ton of money on hair care products.

and i agree with you, king. i'm proud of being a wrestling fan. ____ all the people that stare and giggle when i wear my wrestlemania 26 t-shirt to the gym

I understand that some don't like or get wrestling, but if you can appreciate it for what it is, there is some really good stuff out there. It is a form of performance art. It isn't just the stereotype that some imagine it to be (though some wrestlers do embody that stereotype).

Personally, I'm not a fan of the blading, though, except in a few rare instances where it really helps to make a match really great (like Austin/Bret Hart at WM 13). Guys start to over-use it as a cheap means of getting "heat" when they can't do it on ability alone anymore. Flair is an example in his last few years. I think Dusty Rhodes gets a bit more credit than he deserves as an in-ring performer because he bled so damn much. The better wrestlers would use it in extreme moderation, IMO. If they bled, those guys would typically be bleeding for real.

And to Mask's earlier post, I agree that the Misawa/Kobashi matches are excellent. Since Vince isn't concerned with the smaller, technical-type wrestlers, I have often wished that WWE would focus more on the stiff, All Japan style. But I can't imagine what that does to a guy's body.

*uses Brick Top voice* Of course ____ing of course!

Yea it is staged and choreographed but still, you don't know the out come until the match is over, this is part of the appeal.

The wrestlers do ____ themselves up physically as well for entertainment. I don't watch it any more and i know it can be a really dirty business but, i still respect the athleticism invloved in it.

I don't disagree with much of what he says there, actually. But I think Flair does have an irrational dislike for Bret Hart. Possibly going back to when he was forced to drop the WWF title to him.
