3 cats ?.....
Yes, but why?
3 cats ?.....
Well , if 3 cats catch 3 mice in 3 minutes that means each cat each takes a minute each to catch a mouse.
So if there are 3 cats and 100 mice , each cat should still take a minute each equaling in 100 minutes ?.
That's how I came up with that answer anyway. It would work out the same though if you'd have said one mouse and it had taken a minute so maybe I've figured it out the wrong way you're supposed to but ended up with the right answer.
Not a very hard one.
" This is as light as a feather but no man can hold it for long ?. ".
EDIT :
Ah, you have a very good point there Doctor_B.
Actually I think within a three minute time period, three mice are caught. We don't know the specific number of mice caught by each cat. So in 100 minutes, 100 mice would be caught by three cats. If each cat caught a mouse each minute, than 9 mice would be caught in 3 minutes. At that rate, 100 mice would be caught in much less than 100 minutes.
Heres the actual answer:
"The same three cats would do. Since these three cats are averaging one mouse per minute, given 100 minutes, the cats could catch 100 mice."
Right so, if one cat can capture 3 mice in 3 minutes alone that means in 33 minutes 3 cats can capture 99 and then obviously has enough time to capture one more.
They can then double this and still have time left from the target of 100 minutes.
It depends on how you read the original riddle which answer you end up with.
With two cats , in 51 minutes , 3 mice in 3 minutes each they should be able to catch 102 mice.
