One thing about bodybuilding and appearance of the body that a lot of people misunderstand is that.... it's not exactly like eating healthy.

If you eat to look ripped up not exactly 4% bodyfat but at least below 10%, you are not exactly eating: milk, low fat cheese, cheerios, yogurt, constant shakes, slim fast, protein bars, rice cakes, etc....

It's a whole nother level below that to the bare minimums and consistency.

Is it gonna taste good, hell no, especially at first. Brown rice is amazing tasting, so is whole wheat bread or any carb for that matter. I can tell by someone's taste buds how bare minimum they have been dieting and what essentials they have been living on what they think tastes good and what diet they are used to with sparing the carbs, none to little sugar (EVEN FROM FRUITS). That is a whole nothing level further down to tapering and striations but that's neither here nor there and NOT everyone's goals.

Just depends what your goals are and how you want to look.

Good point!! It's very hard to limit your diet. Outside of skim milk I only drink Crystal Light and water. When we go out to eat, maybe once every other week, I'll have a coke. This is only because I hate drinking water at a restaurant as it tastes horrible.

The past 3 weeks have been hell for me. Lifting in the morning has been getting more an more relaxed, but I've been doing Crossfit Mon,Wed, Frid with "Tread and Shed" classes on Tues and Thurs. I've dropped 8 pounds already without changing my diet...actually I've been eating a lot more.

BLEH....No breaded/fried chicken...only grilled or baked...and absolutely NO soda.
Make sure the fruit juices don't have alot of sugar in them....Sugar= Fat Ass.

White Rice has alot of carbs and thats not good unless you intend to burn it with cardio. Best is brown rice in moderation. Brown Rice taste l like crap tho...so fawk that. If u HAVE to eat rice....eat only one cup.

Thats my advice.

I used to hate brown rice. Now I love the stuff.

If I was 24, life would be so much simpler... wait, scratch that. I have a feeling I'll think the exact same thing about high school when I'm at that age. Sigh...

Well I sweated my balls off in the gym today. I hit the new elipticals that have that do stairs, sprints and distance motions for 45 min with shorts, sweats, dri-fit and a hooded sweatshirt on. I was pouring sweat after 3 minutes... Felt awesome to get back in the gym...

Enduuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure!

Gym's the only place I do drastic movements with my arms, so I don't usually trigger any soreness. Usually only happens after a break, too. After I've worked out two or three times back from a vacation, the post-gym soreness goes away.

My arms are gonna be sore tomorrow! Any tips on how to prevent...or relieve?

Try some light stretching tomorrow and drink plenty of H2O to help flush out the lactic acid. If you're sore tomorrow, then it will probably be worse the second day but that means you had a good workout. No pain...you know the rest.

Stretch IMMEDIATELY after the workout. Then rehydrate with water and then protein within 1/2 half an hour of your completed workout.

If you were old like me, I'd add gluclosamine sulfate for the joints.

But stretching, water and lean protein are the best.

Lol...:lecture
Had an awesome Crossfit class tonight. We did 5 rounds of:
Push presses with 135 pounds
24" Box Jumps
20 pound Wall Ball Throws
Sumo Squat High Pulls with the same bar we used for push presses
Row Machine for time

The workout was continuous with station changes every minute, and a 1 minute break after completing the round.

Thanks! I may not be lifting or running yet but I am back with no impact exercises and looking to do stretching exercises to strengthen my core while I wait for my rehab.

Yeah, just take it easy. Neck/back injuries can take awhile to heal. Feels good just to get back in the gym right?

Ok everyone. I'm starting my own personal journey to change my life. Here are my stats as best as I can guess.

27 years old
5'9"
276 lbs.
Most of it is in my belly, but it's spread around pretty good too.

My goals? Want to get down to somewhere between 160-170. Is that a decent weight to be at for my size? Should I aim even lower? I just want to be healthy. I'm not looking to get ripped, or get buff. I just want to be healthy, and be able to look good again. I've been fat since I was like 10. It's killing me emotionally and physically, and I know if it continues, I'm gonna die very young. I don't want that at all.

my problems? I eat when I'm depressed, as I'm sure a lot of us have done. I used to drink several sodas a day, and tons of junk. I was just an uncontrollable fat guy. No self-control, whatsoever.

I've cut out soda and anything but crystal light or water. I'm good there. That took me a while to do, but I'm good at that now. But the food is still the main problem. I made myself promise that starting today, things were going to SERIOUSLY change. And drastically. I want to lose this weight, and I want to really make it a focus. But I just don't know what to eat. I have no idea what to eat, and what will really help me trim down. I've seen a lot of you suggest veggies, and fruits, and a little bit of fish. Any tips on what you do? What type of fish? how you like it? What veggies and fruits to eat a lot of, and what to avoid? And what are the bare minimum supplements i'll need to keep healthy? Because honestly, i hate pills, and i barely ever take any. So it will need to be something I ease into i guess.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

As far as fitness, i'm kinda limited because of the crap going on in my life, and my budget/time. However, i'm dragging my treadmill up to the living room today. I know that i'm lazy, and love watching tv. lol. So i figured if I have it up there, i can not only watch tv, or listen to music nice and loud, but I can at least do some walking and work my way up to running in the next few weeks. My main complaint about that was how bored i'd get at gym's, or just walking around. So this way, I can have visual or audio stim while working out. Big motivator for me. And then, instead of walking for like 15 minutes, I can do like an hour and be perfectly dedicated to it.

Only other issues? I had leg surgery when I was young to correct walking on my toes, and it really screwed my legs up a bit. It's one of the reasons why i gained weight in the first place. Not just social shunning when I was in a wheelchair, but self-hate and depression. So as the years have gone on, my legs have not gotten much exercise. I'm gonna really have to push to get them going, and i know it's gonna be painful to get there. But I'm determined to make myself do this.

Thanks for any tips you guys, I really appreciate this. Hopefully I'll become a regular in this thread from now on!
~Mike
