The $30 gift card basically covered the cost of shipping. Lesson learned I suppose. Terms should definitely be clearer, and I honestly still can't find the specific verbage that says use of a gift card invalidates other promotion offers. Does anyone have a direct link?

Fortunately I didnt have any gift cards to use! It would have been extremely easy for sideshow to put that as an asterisk note in the terms for the shipping discounts. Here is the link, however, that explains the limitations of the gift cards. Just scroll down until you hit "Terms and Conditions of Gift Card Use" and then it is the 6th bullet under "1."

-"Gift Cards cannot be combined with other Sideshow Collectibles.com discounts, coupons and promotions."

Edit: I want to add that I am not insinuating that you should have known! I only found this because I was worried my sideshow rewards points would invalidate the shipping discount as well!

The Thing arrived today and he is big!!! I am very happy to have my first Marvel and probably last Marvel PF.
I did email SS with my concern and disappointment over the cost of the shipping.
I had to pay another 67.00 bucks for duties and fees.
I will be honest if I had known it was so much I would not have purchased it.
The GC and discount did not make up for the high shipping.
Major ouch!

So quick? Congrats dude!
Post us some pictures, I can't wait to get mine!

Sub Total: $275.00
Discount: $10.00
Freight: $24.61
VAT/Sales Tax: $50.69

Invoice Total: $340.30
Around 210-220 euros so that's cool with me since the regular version costs 330 euros here

Now I hope I wont have to pay import taxes :horror

I got my invoice today, exactly the same amount.
By the way, the VAT/Sales Tax is the import taxes, so you are paying it in that total.

You dont know my country :) They FIND any form of tax on it and they will charge me for it
BUT... if they ship it first to the European warehouse and then to me I dont have to pay any other taxes.

That's probably the reason why I keep ordering at Sideshow and not at other places. I do hope I'm still lucky enough.
I've ordered at MonstersinMotion (Alien Queen) and starwarsshop.com (C3PO and R2D2)
Both times I was charged with a high sum of money for importing the product!

BTW, nice Balrog bust!!! I would love to have one of those on my wall

They all go to the EU warehouse here in the UK first and then they are taken to other EU countries. If you are in Europe but not in the EU then its classed as international shipping... and you are screwed lol

No offense taken at all. Thanks for pointing it out.

It's still confusing to me though, because isn't the SDCC sale price considered a discount? I suppose they just make an exception and say the items are gift card eligible. And technically, they called it a shipping "deal", not a promotion, coupon, or discount. I agree, they should make it better known. If you punch in a gift card, just have a popup saying it may invalidate things such as cheaper shipping.

I'm waiting a week or two before the SDCC frenzy dies down, hoping I get a satisfactory CS response. Only one of my orders processed so far anyway.

They didn't reply to my email, but they did remove the tax amount

So the amount now is : $319.52
But they did charge my creditcard already $340.30

The difference is not much. I'll just wait and see :)

It's in transit to EU btw :banana:banana

I wonder if anyone has this concern with their Thing Exclusive. One of the heads fits really well with the magnet and the other head feels loose. I am worried about leaving it in and it falling out and breaking.

So I just got screwed. I read the terms and conditions for the rewards points three times. There is nothing stating that you can't use rewards points with other promotions. There is a section stating under the gift card terms and contions that gift cards cannot be used with other promotions. So if it is on one and not the other, it makes it seem that that limitation does no apply to rewards points.

Also when Sideshow put the pre autherization hold on my bank account it was for the 15% discount - my rewards point discount + $1.99 shipping for a total of $251 so I figured I was good. They finally actually charged my bank account for the statue and charged me $298. Which is the $275 - rewards point discount + full shipping! I called and they point out a different spot through 4 different links that is NOT in the terms and conditions that specifies you cannot combine rewards points and other discounts. SO, by using my $26 bucks in rewards points it cost me an EXTRA $20. :banghead:banghead:banghead

If it was clearly defined in the terms and conditions I would accept that it was my own stupidity. I thought Sideshow was a very good company until this. Now they just pissed me off.

Well, my card was charged $340 today, just as Sideshow told me on the phone.
Bit pissed off at the bank's currency rate though, cost me £10 more than I thought.
Also got a tracking number so I'm guessing I'll be receiving it in the week... so can't wait.

Hulk, what was the total in your final invoice?

$298.84, though I didnt recieve the final invoice e-mail until the day before my Thing was actually supposed to arrive. And my bank account wasnt charged until that point as well. I would assume things were thrown out of whack by SDCC. Just very frustrating as people have said before. Shipping on The Thing was over $50, and my rewards points were $26.

I wouldnt be nearly as upset if things were discussed in the Terms and Conditions section of the rewards points as it is in the Gift card Terms and Conditions section.

Getting mine on Thursday.

Hulk, that's very unfortunate. I feel for you man--I think all of us, at one time or another, have falling victim to the hidden terms and conditions linkage crap.

In this case, the terms were just not there. It actually said "any in stock item." No mention of gift cards or other BS.

I think it is a way for them to get as much as they can for each item. Like I said, I ordered a Jaws maquette about 12 days before the con. It was 175 + 45 shipping. I used an NYCC gift card and that brought it back down to $180. Literally a couple days after it arrives at my house, they drop the price to $150 plus $2 shipping. I emailed asking if they would be able to adjust the purchase price to reflect the $150 and give me a refund (like how most stores have price match policies). They said they would email me back with an answer later in the week. They later emailed me back saying they couldn't do it because I used a gift card. That's nonsense because even though I used the gc, I still paid $30 more.

And believe me, I could care less about the $30. However, I have almost 4k in preorders on their site. I would they they would also want to care less about giving a good customer back $30 when they change the price within a week of shipping.
