I ask about the shipping because I just bought the Jaws Maquette about 2 weeks ago for $280+45 shipping. I had a $40 NYCC GC and used that so the charge was $285. Now they put it on sale this weekend for $250 + the $2 shipping. If I knew this was going to happen, I would have waited to order, not used the GC and saved myself some cash.

Ugh...I'm going to get shafted on those shipping charges too. Kind of lame on SSC's behalf if you ask me. It should have been described in clearer terms.

I ordered the oversize vader vcd and clone trooper vcd. Used a $30 and $40 GC for each. Oh well. If you cancel, you lose the GC values, no?

Plus, you don't get any Reward Points as well for your order if you used a Gift card.

I just paid 116.00 for shipping to Canada. If I had known it was that high I would not have picked it up.

someone on this thread said they got the half price for buying it during SDCC
Are you EU or international?

Did your purchase weigh over 15 pds?

One other point. Why does he weigh double with his packing weight

I might get screwed too

I used a free GC card posted above by a most excellent member.
Later I read that the shipping cost will not be 50%

I calculated that on top of the 54 dollars shipping will be another 100 for me
so that's 154 dollar shipping.

Indeed it's weird about the entire shipment being twice the weight of the statue itself.

Well I got a call from them yesterday, I gotta say their customer service left me gob smacked, perfection indeed.
I asked them about the shipping again and they said it was 50% off (which came at $15.90) but they were going to call it $15 for me. The total is $340 delivered (because of taxes) but I'm happy with that, Forbidden Planet sell the regular version for £300, thats almost $600....
By the way I am in the UK.
dr2red I have no idea why you have been charged 116 for shipping, I thought the 50% off was for internationals as well. Are you sure that does not include customs taxes?

Was your quote for shipping for international or EU?
I am going to ask them to check into it for me. I did use a GC and it was over the 15 pd limit.

Well i am in the United Kingdom and that is EU. Their small print stated that for the UK specifically they had a $15 flat rate of shipping, the rest of the EU is simply 50% off.
I am guessing you are paying more for shipping because you used the gift card.
If I were you I would give them a call or fill in the form and ask them to call you back, they will do within a couple of days. They are very helpful. See if you can get them to cancel the use of your gift card and allow you to benefit from the shipping discount alone. They may do it, and they may give you your gift card back. Just tell them you made a genuine mistake, at the end of the day they dont want you to cancel your order...

I had something sent from them recently. Four packages, weighing more that the Thing in total and shipping was 106.00. I just received my official invoice and it said the shipping did not qualify because I used a GC. I figure using the GC cost me an extra 40.00. Oh well. Now I just have to wait for duties and taxes. Ouch.

I did what spartan said a moment ago. I hope they can help me

If not it's still okay

Most money spend on a SS item was Yoda
$705 dollar, shipping included and even that was okay with me

Sorry to hear about that. :monkey2

You may want to call Sideshow and let them know about your disappointment and they may just be able to help you out. I will be honest, I think those terms should have been clearly stated on the shipping discount page. I read over it many times and if I had a gift card I would have used it as well.

Honestly when I spoke to them they were so so nice, they even sped up the shipment to their EU warehouse so I can get this before I go on holiday.

I am sure they will help you.

I wish they start making, or at least "assembling", some of these items in their warehouse here in the UK so we dont have to pay those taxes in the future. It will really encourage a lot of buyers from this side of the pond.

Wow Sideshow must be desperate to offer this type of deal. Personally I think that Sideshow has played out the Thing to the point where collectors don't want to spend big bucks on another Thing, sigh.

this is a good thing. it'll show that the fans wont just buy anything that a company puts out.

How can you call this "anything"?
Everybody seems to be in agreement that this is the ultimate Thing statue, just like the Hulk is.
The only reason this didn't sell out was because the flippers saw a big edition number and then the modern version came out and people thought it would "water down" the edition even more...
But how does that make the actual statue any less iconic or "yet another thing"...?
It is the circumstances (oil price, money already spent on other statues) that stopped this from selling out the first day, not the quality of the product itself...

Agreed on the gift cards kind of sucking. It's basically just a way to get you to buy older, less popular merchandise they can't clear out. My oversized Vader shipped. Estimate was a little off like usual, and ended up being a little over $30! That's kind of crazy for a big plastic statue. I know it's bigger than most VCDs, but it's still only 5lb. I've paid less on most PFs. They shipped the VCDs separate too, so I'm curious what I'll get slapped with on the clonetrooper VCD.

The $30 gift card basically covered the cost of shipping. Lesson learned I suppose. Terms should definitely be clearer, and I honestly still can't find the specific verbage that says use of a gift card invalidates other promotion offers. Does anyone have a direct link?

Usually I love SSC, but I have to give them a thumbs down on this customer experience. Maybe I'll submit the form and see if they can do anything for me.
