I think Rick is doing what he does best. Survive. And to help everyone in his group survive too. He realised it was his fault that Abraham and Glenn died and he wasn't going to let it happen again. Not because of his ego. It takes courage to control the anger and rage for vengence especially when the time is not right. You could see when he wanted to hit Negan with the bat but controlled himself. I just cannot wait for him to wipe that smirk off Negan's face. Maybe after 3 seasons or so as they drag each episode out.

Even if you didnt read the comics it's clear theyre letting rick and crew hit rock bottom to make the come back more rewarding. And it's clear theyre setting dwight up as the turn. Theyve already humanized him and gave him motivation and feelings et al. And it's clear that it'll take all 3 communities to beat negan in what could make the prison battle look like an after school fight.

This. :goodpost:

This did not need to be an hour and a half. Once again, the important, memorable things on screen amount to minimal screen time in a 1.5 hour snoozefest. I almost fell asleep. I think less is more with Negan. The more I see him the more he seems like a cartoon character. He's really not that funny--he's becoming obnoxious. And some of his lines are as eye-rolling as Abraham. If we saw him in small doses I think his presence would be more frightful and refreshing. This was the guy I couldn't wait for.

You had a week to prepare and you did nothing. In fact (as noted above) you kept a list of everything you owned so your new post apocalyptic pimp can cross check and make sure youre being 100% honest with him over the stuff he's going to take from you. Then he'll take everything. Then he'll be back next week to take more. If you dont have more he'll kill someone. Great plan and a fantastic future for your ppl (including your daughter).

Once again, he didn't come when he was suppose to. He came early. How early I don't know. Rick is trying to keep anymore people from being killed. It's Rick's mindset right now.

They kept records of everything before Negan. Not sure why, but that's what they did.

2, 3 times they asked Negan about only taking half, why they are taking so much. they believed his word.

gullible and naive? maybe, but they trusted he was only taking half

That's what he was doing with Hilltop and others, so I'm sure they just expected him to do the same, like he said.

I don't know how Negan expects Alexandria to be productive for him without weapons.

It seems I'm watching a different show than others. I thought this episode was great. I just don't know what some expect.

Great episode. I thought it accomplished exactly what it was supposed to. Setting up some good stuff for Carl (hopefully, it they stick to the comics) and really showing how much the encounter with Negan changed Rick. The part were Negan was watching Deanna's interview with Wild-Rick and the contrast with Broken-Rick was effective. But I also liked how they illustrated how hard Rick is suppressing the white hot rage inside.

I do believe there is an element of geekdom commentary that encourages a lot of blow-hardism.

Ugh. It’ so frustrating watching Negan. He is truly a despicable human being and really knows how to dominate and break people. Even the way he looks so intensely at you. I actually think this would be a good portrayal of the Joker! But it makes watching the show such a chore.

And it’s also infuriating that there were so many instances where anyone could have killed Negan. Coral could have done it. He had his hand extended ready to fire and just two other bad guys there. He could have just shot N without hesitation and Rick could have blocked the other two long enough for Carl to re-aim. Or when they saw Negan at the gate, someone could have just gotten a rifle and sniped him. I know I should just go along with it and I am, but it really seems a little too much like their inaction is just to serve the plot. And I really do believe this is a case of cutting off the head to kill the snake thing. Yes there would be some resistance, but having someone like Negan be so overbearing and having broken every last one of his followers to the extent that he does, they would be at a loss without him or would be rejoicing that the tyrant is dead. Think back to just last week where that one member was completely broken and preferred death over going back. Even the Daryl wannabe with the burnt face is ready to kill Negan himself. I think it would be just a handful of his top men that they would need to deal with once Negan would be killed.

I also couldn’t tell what Michone found burning. Thanks for posting that!

I dont remember this hole in logic in the comic but anyone w/ common sense says how does this play out if we are unarmed and keep working for this guy who occasionally will kill one of us for sport or to teach a lesson? What will happen is that sooner or later we wont meet his quota (because the earth has been picked clean at this stage) and he'll start killing us; or we just get tired of wearing this yolk and rebel. And maybe we die that way. But we wont have any weapons becuase we gave them all to him. So that really stacks the odds against a successful rebellion.

Thats just what it is over time.

But once you disarm yourself the game is theoretically over. Because now you cant fight back against him when you finally get tired of his sticking his foot up your ass once a week. Incredibly poor choice. More so when you consider they had time (call it 5 days if you like) to weigh their options. Bad writing with keeping the ledger. Rick et al are too smart for that. At least they were written that way up until now.

And i have to admit i really get the 2nd Amend argument in this.

It's like in GOT when ramsey gets theon to shave him. It's that level on confidence that no one will touch them. And i find it frustrating but a very nice touch.

People like to be sheep though. They're bound to cling to such a dominant figure.

The revolt will come.

Sometimes I wonder if this show would do better if it did follow the GoT method of showing a little bit of everybody every week instead if focusing on one or few characters chapter each week. But regardless I keep hoping to see this show get great again and not just stumble through the season with a few cool highlights. The characters simply aren't that engaging anymore.

What happens between coral and in the comic?

Comic spoilers.

Before Negan leaves Alexandria Carl sneaks onto the back of one of the trucks, gets a hold of ammunition, wreaks holy hell with many of Negan's men, and spends some alone time with Negan himself. Some really great scenes from the comic.

U could always say the same about real life mob bosses today.
How come no one takes down mafia bosses or gang leaders, cartel bosses or anything?
How come these bosses dont get taken down by their own people? How can they have so much power and loyalty?
