Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I don't get the thinking in some corners of fandom (Doctor Who is really bad in this respect) where if a character isn't funny or likeable or bad ass then they don't like the character. I can't think of anyone in TWD that I would consider a bad character.

Yes - as I said earlier, I don't get when people think of these character's worth in terms of whether they would have value in a 'real' situation. They have value to the story - that's the point. One of the most important characters this season has be Sophia - and she had almost no screen time.

You're not supposed to like every character - Lori is a great example. I can't stand her, but I realize the value she adds to the story.

Some of the best television today have multi-faceted characters - that's what makes great drama.

But that said, I would probably prefer to have Dexter in my Zombie apocalypse survival group over Walter White or Don Draper - they're more Shane like in their self-centeredness.

But then, why should I care? I'm not watching a reality show. I'm watching fiction. I don't mind characters acting real, but I don't want to watch a real character. That's boring.

I like characters that are interesting to watch. Who, every week I learn something new about their personality, their lives, their ideas...ect. I mean, they could just be the straight man/women in a world of crazies, but they need something to set them a part.

Like, take Kenny Powers. An over the top, egotistical _______, but at his core, he's a sad helpless man who just really wants to be liked. Now, you rarely see that in his character, but when you do, it's always great. Which is why I love the character. He's trying to redeem himself.

And I can't wait to see what happens to him.

Dexter, before the 6th season was like that for me too. People hated all the side characters...but I found them interesting. They were all likable, or unlikable, and even then, you wanted to see what happens to them, because of their interactions with other people.

I really, and i'm sorry, did not care about Sophia. In any way. I didn't care if they found her, and I didn't care when they did. And Lori's car wreck is no where on my care-o-meter.

But Shane is. Even though I know....I still want to see the progression of events. I want to see Rick and Shane fighting over the ideology of the current world. I want to see Glenn stand up for himself. I don't want to see Lori. She may bring a good point or two...but she's just annoying to me now.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Looks like I came in on a hot topic...I just started watching the show, and am all caught up. I really enjoy it and even though it is another zombie post apocalyptic plot. The characters is what makes this show different you love them you hate them great drama.

I was thinking the same thing today when T-Dog is talking to Dale about how they're weak and they always stay behind, and I thought they all serve a purpose in some way. Its a great group of survivors.

And yet without Sophia you'd have none of the character development of Daryl. Funny how that works out.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I love the how but they are really pushing their luck by making the episodes slow and drags so much sometimes, the show has a lot of fans of course and is a good show,
but I really wish they didn't do this, I know the comic might be this way too but, I am not saying I want zombies being killed every show all the time, but they do make some scenes long and dull at times,

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I still say this prolonged, dragged out stay at the farm is a budgetary thing, and not because of the writers. They must be saving a ton on location shooting and make-up effects.

Being slow is what turned me off in the first place, I finally decided to watch it with an open mind, no regrets, just wish they wouldn't drag out the episodes.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

All the people complaining about how long they've been on the farm need to relax... cuz when they get to ...

the prison we're gonna be there for a VERY LONG time. In the books they spent the better part of 3 years (30 issues or so) in the prison.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Im not really complaining, I still watch the show and I love watching it,
Is pretty much one of the only shows on tv that are worth watching, I mean, this against reality tv Completely wins, hands down.

Im just thinking, even if they don't kill any zombies, they should not make some scenes longer than they need to be, or as boring, I have not read the novel so I am completely unaware if the story is this way, and is cool, I don't wish for more zombie killing, but at least something else than the long draggy scenes

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I don't think that using the farm for the 13 episodes is budgetary - they are pretty much telling the story they should, and would have been at the farm all season either way.

I do think there ARE things that have been effected by budget. Anyone notice how few flashbacks showing anything of their previous lives we've had this year? We had the one scene with Shane and Lori getting to Atlanta (which had to be expensive for such a short scene), and that was about it.

:goodpost::exactly:

They are telling a story of survivors looking for a safe place to stay. They accomplished that goal by stumbling onto Herschel's farm - a relatively safe haven in the world they now live. Why would they leave it? Because all the ADD riddled viewers get bored with the same scenery? Go watch another show then because this show is never going to satisfy someone who is looking for continual action and changes of scenery. If you read the books then you would know that this series is about the characters and their development and not about constant action with zombie fights/chases etc. There are spans of numerous issues where a zombie is never even seen!

All the characters have grown/changed considerably since arriving at the farm. Rick, Shane, Andrea, Carl, Daryl, and Glenn have changed a lot. Just go back and watch the first episode of this season and then re-watch the last episode to see the differences.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I have to agree with others here. I don't enjoy the episodes that drag on and focus on their personal issues.

I especially think the character Dale is out of place. I get where the writers/producers are going with him. He's suppose to be the voice of reason. I just don't think it applies for the situation they're currently in.

Instead, I'd like to see the team on-the-move. Losing members. Finding and adding new members. They've got cars but they've decided to hole up at the farm...for too long now. The boy is fine. Move on.

The producers need to step-up and get more sets involved.
Make us believe that this team is fighting to stay alive, not debating morals.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I think the problem is the audience.

They want a blood and guts zombie show, story be damned. But fortunately they are the minority.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

No kidding.

Run, find zombie, lose characters, gain characters, change backdrop, run, find zombie, etc. would be about as entertaining as a season of Survivor. No thank you.
