Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

nice idea, but to be honest i hope that never comes to pass. i like glenn and i like maggie and i like them as a couple. sentimentality may have little place in a world like this and certainly not in the horror genre. but it'd be nice to have them represent hope. that there is still place for love and caring in a world as horrific as this. i don't see much of it left with rick and lori, esp with the way things are developing. there are agendas and ulterior motives at play in their relationship, regardless of whether it's out of self-preservation. with glenn and maggie, it just strikes me as a pure, and (relatively) simple love.

That's a really great take on Maggie and Glenn's relationship on show. Thanks for reading my post!

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I'm not trying to justify Rick's actions, just saying I understand why he did it. Everybody thinks that if they were in a setting like that they'd become some kind of Dirty Harry only looking out for number one, but that's just too many years of playing first person shooters and watching action movies talking.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

As I said, not a smart move, but it's easy to judge Rick for trying to help that kid when you're removed from the situation. Anyone who was really in that situation, hearing that young kid screaming for his life, I bet they would have a harder time making that call than they might think.

It's like the folks that were pissed at Shane for sacrficing Otis. When you're removed from the situation, it's easy to say Shane was an a-hole and you'd would never do something like that, but if you were really in that situation, someone you love is dying and needs the equipment you have, the zombies are on your ass, the adrenaline's pumping, a lot of those people would be surprised how willing they'd be to cap Otis in the leg and haul ass.

the problem is that, that same kid just almost shot Glenn, those people were dangerous and they were shooting at each other. Rick could have killed that kid when they first shot in the window. Glenn could have shot him as he was getting out the back.
They were being shot at and Rick just killed two of the guys before.

I get the whole "compassion to the enemy" or whatever,
but What I don't get is that Rick himself could have shot that guy, before he fell, he could have killed him, What difference does it make that he fell and they left him for dead?

You ever been shot at? I have, and believe me, someone shoots at me, I'm not giving them a second chance.

The difference is that when they were being fired on, it was faceless person trying to kill them, when he was impaled, Rick was staring into the face of a helpless kid screaming for his life.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Nope, never have. I honestly can't say what I'd do in Rick's shoes.

Rick's moral compass points north, no matter the situation. Some people are like that, while others are not. I doubt I'd do the same thing he did, but I understand it. The scene didn't strike me as unrealistic.

Another instance of Rick looking at things beyond the immediate, emotionally charged moment. The kid was shooting at strangers who had killed people in his group. They were the enemy and it was supposedly his responsibility to help the group. When he got in a jam, they abandoned him. Hard lesson. Now, does he get eaten, or does he live? Vengefulness and pragmatism shoot him in the head, and take off before they get eaten too. Someone with a cool head and a strong respect for life saves him.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Rick's sick of killing people. Simple as that. He's sick of everyone dying, not being able to help. Now, no one really knows what they would do then. Sure...you can say you'd pop him, but I don't know...

It was a good moment.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Rick is certainly the hero of TWD. I think his actions are generally to be approved of - though I personally would not have agreed to the Walker-wrangling. That was just too risky. Maybe I'd try to 'capture' someone I loved rather than just head-shot them but certainly not strangers who'd become zombies. I'd have said to Hershel 'no, just no'

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I think this show is losing me. :monkey2 They make the most unlikable character even more unlikable by having her just wander off into town and flip a truck. And then the scene at the end? The long close shot of Rick? Right out of daytime soaps. I lol'd HARD.

Might give it a few more episodes, but I think I'll be sticking with the books.

speaking of the books, shouldn't the next omibus volume be coming out soon?

It was only that last scene with Lori that made me realise what people hate about her. Her deviousness there, her willingness to use people. And then of course other instances of her using people in previous episodes sprang to mind.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I just finished reading The Rise of the Governor. It tells the backstory of the Governor. Anybody else read it? I thought it was good, but not great. The comics are better IMO.

Curious what others thought about it.
