Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

There's no need to read the comics if you're watching the show. I'm glad it's been a while since I read what I did because the spoilers are limited (and they aren't going 100% by the book anyway). The only reason I brought it up was for the benefit of anyone who had doubts about the direction it's going in, based on the events of the first episode. Anyone who read it already knows that weak spots are few and far between (if there are any at all).

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Just watched Ep1 and HOLY CRAP!!!!! It was good.....very excellent adaptation/update to the equally excellent comic series

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Being someone who did consistently read the comic up until about a year ago, I think the tv show does a decent job of being faithful to the original story...at least for now. Things get pretty hairy later on in the story, and I do wonder if AMC and Darabont are brave enough to tackle some of the heavier events.

They will tackle them... and some of them in different ways.

The show will eventually create its own canon. I hope folks aren't expecting it to adhere closely to the comics all the way through.

I don't mind if it's equally as good. Frankly, some events in the comic I could do without (though they do lend weight and gravitas to the story).

One plot point I do hope they keep is Rick's HANDicap later on.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I'm wondering if they're going to kill off Carl (son Carl, not Zombie Carl). He's been a little kid for the last 7 years of comics. It doesn't work that way in TV. They're gonna have to do something, and they can't just give him special powers and send him off the island.

I am fine with them going off to their own canon as long as Rick does get his hand chopped off and they do the whole prison story line.

I'm thinking the first one will be tough to do from a technical standpoint. The second one is more likely.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

DVR'd it and watched it yesterday. Great stuff, and I'm not a zombie guy either. I loved the whole tone and pace of the show. It's slow, but I think it works to ratchet up the suspense and creepiness.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I haven't read the comic series... but loved the first episode. Really impressive work and I was surprised by how much violence they were able to show.

Well done AMC :clap :clap

:lol Nice!

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I set this to record on Friday and the rest of the series. Too bad my cable provider doesn't have AMC in HD though. :slap

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

This is awesome. Got permission from the theater owner at the theater I manage to have "Walking Dead" club every Monday night where we will watch it in our digital theater. Now this will be the way to catch the Walking Dead. Love cross promotions with local comic book shop :chew

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Never read the comic, but really liked the first episode of the series. Definitely making it a slower pace to ratchet up the suspense which is part of what I like. I just don't want this turning into Lost where they have a great premise and then meander around with the plot and raise a whole bunch of new questions without answering any of the old ones. I like this because it reminds me a lot of The Stand (my fav book by SK) but with the zombie slant. Glad to see the premier episode scored high ratings. Hope it continues and I look forward to new eps.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I've never read the comic. Just watched this last night from my DVR. Huge fan of zombie flicks, and this did not disappoint. My only "minor" gripe is the sheriff's deputy (damn, I can't remember the character's name!) waking up from a coma in the hospital after everthing went down a la Ciliian Murphy's character in 28 Days Later. Other than that (and to be honest, that's me nit-picking) the show was great.

I hope we see more of Morgan and his son. I thought they should have reinforced the police department and holed up there.

Man, Sunday's nights have too much going on now. Besides the NFL night game, there's Dexter on Showtime HD, Boardwalk Empire on HBOHD, this on AMCHD, and Luther on BBCAmerica HD.

I didn't mind the similarity to 28 Days Later with the sheriff too much. I actually wonder if The Walking Dead comic might have been around before 28 Days Later was made. Someone on here know which came first? The "problem" I had with the scene was how long was the sheriff in a coma for? Must have been pretty long judging by the state of the dried withered flowers by his bed and yet he still had enough fluid in his IV bag to keep him alive all that time? :rotfl
