Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I just read today how they're going to stray from the comic book storyline a bit. Not very surprising; this is television. I just hope they don't take OUT any of the books characters. Can't wait to watch Michonne.

Found this map online..pretty cool to track their movements on a real map. There are spoilers so be careful what you click.

Jeez, FINALLY watched this yesterday, mother____in perfect! A great zombie story really has nothing to do with zombies for me, its really about the human aspect. Seeing the struggle one would go through faced with an apocalyptic scenario like a world overrun with zombies continues to fascinate me. When done right it can be so compelling, when done wrong you get zombie trash kahkah. This has eveything it needs to be perfection!

Love the zombies so far too. Cant wait to see more. Hope the story telling and character development stay strong.

Lots of words.

All kidding aside, that's exactly how I feel about the show. I've seen quite a few zombie movies and I get tired of them moving fast or always jumping out and biting people. I can tell this series is going to be different and I love it for that reason.

:pfft:

......:lol

Yeah, for me a well told story with zombies is a bagillion times better than awesome zombies in a shat story. Zombies shouldn't be the focus, rather they should provide the backdrop for a story about the struggle to survive in the face despair and isolation.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I think after a season of this, I'll be ready to watch The Road. :panic:

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I still havent watched that yet, I really wanna read the book first. But I got a reading list of about 10 books to get through before I get to The Road. Maybe I'll just watch it and read the book later.

I read the book first then saw the movie. Both are really good. Of course the book is a little better than the movie, but you wouldn't being do yourself a disservice seeing the movie first.

I read the book before the movie came out, but never got around to seeing it. Hard to get motivated to watch bleak, depressing movies. :lol

Good to know, maybe I'll just watch it.

But those are the best kinds :rock

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I watched the Road right after the Walking Dead episode and I must admit it was too much for my sensitive little self. :(

As I wrote in the "Rate the Last Movie You Watched" thread, I was at a loss as to what to even rate the Road since it was so bleak and hopeless. There is certainly much more light and hope in the Walking Dead.

The Road is a strong, well-written, well-made movie. But it is really really depressing. Just so you know...

And back to the Walking Dead, I'm really anxious to watch the next episode. I saw a short clip of it at NYCC that shows you what happens in the beginning of Ep 2. Wow. I haven't been this excited about a show in a long time!

From High-Def Digest:
'The Walking Dead: Season One' Blu-ray Now Up for Pre-Order!

The first season of Frank Darabont's zombie apocalypse TV series will be shambling to Blu-ray soon!

In an early announcement to retailers, Starz/Anchor Bay looks to be releasing 'The Walking Dead: Season One' starring Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Laurie Holden, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Emma Bell on Blu-ray in the near future.

Specs, supplements, and a release date have not been set yet, but suggested list price for this set is $49.99.

*************

Take that, crappy SD broadcast! :yess:

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Great news but I am deciding I want to wait until a complete box set at some point. Which would suck cause I would want to rewatch this a lot.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I loved the Road film, but honestly there isnt a lot to compare between Walking Dead and The Road. Yes, WD does get bleak
especially after the prison to those who have read it
but I think it has enough fun relatable characters to set it apart from it. And WD also has enough fun moments in it that build you up, before it gets even darker. Its a roller coaster of a series that will blindside you at times. The Road by comparison was bleak from beginning to end.

To those who have read it to the current issues:
I can't wait to see how the prison is handled, especially Laurie and the baby. Some of the most traumatic events I have ever read and actually had to stop reading and take a break once Laurie dies. Also wonder what season this will take place

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Well, spending half the day at the DMV today allowed me to finally catch up on this thread which I was determined to read through once the pilot aired. And I have to say you guys kept me entertained during my long wait there. A few points I wanted to hit on as I was reading:

First, I'm so ashamed, embarrassed and mad at myself for letting my copy of the first collected hardcover go. I won it at the SDCC CBLDF auction a few years ago, and it was wonderfully sketched by both artists and Kirkman too. Each did an amazing zombie portrait, and I paid a pretty penny for it, although I guess unsketched copies are going for more now. I used the funds from the sale to attend the next SDCC, so it was not a complete loss. But, as we always say, hindsight is 20/20. It really was a cool piece to have, and I remember shipping it to Iraq I believe to an enlisted soldier. Hope he is still enjoying it.

I love how a slow burning plot and character development is considered "boring" by some of today's generation.

There was absolutely not a dull, boring or dead (heh) moment in the entirety of that episode.

I also wonder how long it will take the masses to catch up on the fact that the title isn't really referring to the zombies, but the survivors.

Agree 100% with our man on the set, Irish. This is the pacing I prefer and is one of the main attractions for me to the film Alien. It is almost an hour until we see anything alien in the film. My younger friends do not appreciate the film, with the same proclamation. "Boring."

And I most associate with your second statement there, that the title refers more to the survivors which Kirkman's entire opus is about. Absolutely. You beat me to it, not than many of our brethren do not feel the same way. Very astute. In many ways, I feel like I'm "walking dead" every day, but attempt to overcome that feeling. This is one of the most profound things I have pulled out of my countless wasted years reading comic books.

Take that, crappy SD broadcast! :yess:

And since I see myself rambling, I will cut it short and say...

I was wrong in assuming AMC was HD on my service, which is DirectTV, so, I'm out in the cold of SD with the majority of you. Why oh why is AMC not in HD on Direct?

Commence laughter now Waller! :rotfl
