Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

This is not the direction they should be heading towards. The second I saw the CDC scientist guy I sighed. I'm afraid they'll attempt to explain the zombie outbreak. It doesn't matter. The cause is not important and usually it's just trite.

Come on, the path of the comic was great. Why couldn't they just follow it?

My thoughts is that they needed some way to "cap off" the season since they were not sure of a second season when they started. Having the story go off in this direction might have made it easier to make the season self-contained had it not been such a huge success. Since season 2 now officially has the greenlight, hopefully they will steer the direction back toward the comics.... my hope anyway....

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I thought this episode was great. We got our first experience of someone turning, someone succumbing to zombie sickness, Shane's true colors coming through, Rick's uncertainty reaching its peak, everyone else's doubts in his abilities surfacing, and the scene before the doors of the CDC was epic.

One more reason I'm glad I forgot the comics.

I agree with everything up to the CDC. That was the part I did not like at all. I will like it more if they don't explain anything. I like that aspect of not really knowing. Sort of like "The Road".

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I don't think this has anything to do with comic vs show - I just don't need them giving us the trite "look, a scientist that just happens to know everything that happened and also survived" routine. This show needs to be about the people, not the zombies.

I think there were some good points in this episode - it just didn't need to take an entire hour to get there, especially when you only had two left.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I think that's just a matter of the pacing they set at the beginning. It seems like things should be accelerating as they reach the first conclusion, but they aren't letting it.

I got the impression that he doesn't know. He's trying to figure it out, but so far, he can't. And after the destruction of the last living tissue samples, the fact that he let them in doesn't bode well.

Agreed, next week's description is something along the lines of
not everything is as it seems
Didn't want to upset anybody so I slapped the spolier tag over it. I liked last night's show but it was my least favorite. There was some foreshadowing with Shane & Rick and it showed some things that had not been seen up to this point so it had some importance but I felt like they dragged it out a little too much. I was hoping that the season finale was a two hour show but it looks like its only a one hour show - bummer! It's going to be a long wait until season 2 so I hope episode 6 kicks @$$!

I'm glad I didn't read the comics either. I like the show so far. It disturbs me. I guess that's the way it should be. :lol

One of the things I liked about the Dawn of the Dead remake was the beginning when the guy was being asked during the press conference what the virus/disease is and he said "we simply don't know". I thought that was more powerful because their best minds couldn't figure it out and it had the feel of something that could not be undone. It set the tone that there would be no happy ending in the movie.

I liked last nights episode.
The only thing I don't like (seems like in almost any zombie related show, movie)is that the military falls apart to easy.I mean they are trained to kill, yet in almost every film or book or tv show they are gone in an instant and yet local town folks can survive?

Devil we need to mark this day down because we both finally agree on something. :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

I thought this was a really good episode. From an action standpoint, not much happened, but we got a lot more character development last night, which is what I thought people wanted. It's what I want. We got some insight into Dale's backstory with his wife. It also sounds like Dale, Andrea and Amy were together before they met the rest of the group. We got more depth to Andrea's character too with the second "death" of her sister. From a viewer standpoint, it was good to see a new zombie awaken. They are not all filled with a rage and hunger the exact instant they open their eyes (ala 28 Days or Dawn of the Dead). It is more like awakening from a deep sleep where they are slow and disoriented at first. I found that bit of info useful from a viewer standpoint. What about the Ed's wife killing his body? What a graphic powerful scene. A very cathartic experience for her, but also deeply sad at the same time. I thought that scene was very well done. The writing on this show has been excellent. They are very sneakily getting us to care about certain characters and be wary of others, like Shane. It's official. Daryl is my favorite character. I hope he sticks around for a while. He is not as "perfect" as someone like Rick seems to be so far but he has demonstrated his loyalty to the group and willingness to stick with them and defend them. I find flawed characters much easier to relate to as I have my share of flaws too.

I also want to know more about the disease. Not every minute detail, but a basic background of it would be nice. I think there needs to be because the audience will want to know and if they don't address it, they will lose a lot of the audience which will ultimately lead to the cancellation of the show. As I understand it, the comic book is different, but let's also keep in mind that the comic was not very popular even among comics fans in terms of actual sales. I am sure AMC is acutely aware of this and want to deviate from the comic in some aspects to make it more appealing to a wider audience. I can't understand the people who say they don't want to know about the disease at all. They must be fans of Lost too.

:rock :rock yes!

Also, not necessarily having to do with this specific show but Zombie stuff in general. Does anyone ever explain or mention the ability for mosquitoes being able to transfer zombie blood? I can't remember if it was mentioned in the Zombie Survival Handbook.

Good point. Maybe we will see more military survivors in later seasons because it would make a lot of sense that at least some highly trained people would have survived too.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

We will learn more about the disease pretty soon I think, at the CDC... The Doc will fill in more back story.

Those of you that saw next week's preview, do you think that the scene showing the
military shoot out was a flachback, a scene referring to the French being one of the last to hold out from the infection or will we see a military presence at the CDC in episode 6? I wasn't sure if the guy at CDC was all by himself or if there were leftover soldiers there too.

Can't wait to see the finale and see where it goes!

I could see it being a flashback. I would guess they wouldn't show any current military for a while.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Military was deployed to the front lines as they say, they have to go out into cities around tons of people to try and keep order so it makes sense they would fall apart easily. The army bases are taking in thousands of civilians, it makes sense they can't keep track of them all, only one infected needs to make it in and your all trapped in a superdome or wherever.

28 Days handled military remnants perfectly. I also liked the Land of the Dead concept that the millionaire guy could basically buy whats left of the military for his own gain.

My question is what killed everyone in front of the CDC? they were all layed out like they had all been shot. I don't trust this guy, he seems like Doc Frankenstein in Day of the Dead, looking for "fresh specimens". I'm sure he sees the group somewhat as an oppurtunity to experiment.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Yea, I think we could get some interesting non-informed experimenting with this guy.

I think World War Z pretty much did a perfect job explaining why the military would fail.

As to the bodies in front of the CDC, I'd assume the military had a large scale standoff - those killed by the military are still there, those turned into zombies have largely wandered off. It looked like there were some military types there in guard buildings, etc. that were also shot, but they could have taken their own lives rather than being swarmed by the zombies.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I got the vibe Mr. CDC is going to pull a shenanigan on the blonde.
As in infect her with the virus so he can replace the lost brain samples from the lab mishap.
Thats what the previews hinted at to me so dont scream spoilers.
France were the ones to hold out the longest huh? :rolleyes:Yeah, right.
They wouldve been the first to try to surrender to the zombies. Maybe its the bad Parisian hygiene that saved them, the zombies thought they already smelled dead.:sick:explode:
I kid the French, they actually helped us out waaaaaaay back in the revolution.
