Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I could understand someone being hesitant to kill a loved one (or even a stranger tbh) that had turned into a zombie if they were completely clueless to the situation. A good example is in the remake of Dawn of the Dead. When the chick's husband gets bitten and turns.. the wife doesn't try to kill him. She simply tries to escape. Because she's confused, scared, etc. To me that's realistic: you would simply try to get away and not harm them. Even with all the movies we've seen your first reaction would not be "ZOMBIE!!! Kill EM'!!!!". :lol

But with that said, the situation in last week's Walking Dead episode was entirely different. Those people KNOW what's going on. Those people KNOW what happens after someone gets bitten. They've been through it.. they've seen it firsthand. They know.

So in that scenario, while the scene was probably heartfelt for some it just came off as really stupid to me. Why would you want to see your loved one like that? That could've been avoided by simply saying your goodbyes over the body (if you even need that) and then walking away and asking someone else to "take care of it".

To me.. it was like someone with a loved one about to die in a hospital and them asking the staff if they could be the one to pull the plug. It was just unnecessary and unrealistic.

I understand they were trying to milk the audience and create an emotional moment but for me while watching it I was just like "What a stupid _____!".

:lol:lol:lol:rotfl

I think she wanted to tell her sister how sorry she was, and she did. I guess she felt she'd understand her when she "woke up".

Nobody knows what they would do in that situation with someone they cared deeply about.

No one has mentioned the wife wanting to smash her lowlife husband's brain to mush.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

One of the best aspects of the books and the show is that it shows us the different ways different people respond in this situation. Who steps up, who falls apart, and why. If everyone reacted the way you think they should to the situation, it'd be a pretty damn boring show.

Like Ween said, she wanted to talk to her, explain that she was sorry for never being there. Does a zombied sister understand? Who knows how much she understands? Clearly the mom in the first episode had some recognition of her own home. It wasn't an unreasonable way for Andrea to act.

And while there was danger, there wasn't extreme danger. They knew she wasn't going to instantly leap up and rip her face off - she wasn't going to open her eyes and bit her hand. They have probably all seen someone turn, and knew what to expect.

I love how there is so much thought and emphasis put into fictional stories we watch like this but when it comes to real life things that matter, we don't go into such great details. hehe Just making a comment about people in general.

btw I love this show. Although is it just me, but I don't think it has much going for it beyond a first viewing. Some things are well done for a first view, and others you can watch over and over again. I can watch Zombieland and Buffy over and over again, maybe because of their cheesy one liners and good ol' campy fun, but when something becomes very serious and drawn out, it makes it hard to take in a second serving of it. Make no misconception, I love this show and it's the only one I faithfully watch week in and week out. Maybe my mood will change from that as we get more invested into the series. For now, I am happy just watching each episode once and waiting patiently for the next one to follow.

She really went to town on her dead husband's head. :horror

I liked how Daryl just watched her...IMO you could see that he was startled by, but understood, her rage.

Indeed.

It's something I don't think I would have done, but I'm not so ignorant to assume everyone would react the same way or how they "should".

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I just seen on G4's attack of the show, that they said they fired the writers and are looking to get freelance writers for the next season. Not sure if I heard it correctly so someone please tell me I heard it wrong...

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

personally i was pretty annoyed by the stupid blonde just waiting to get bitten by her zombified sister. look, i know full well they were going for pathos. but it was badly played. even if in this particular universe it takes a while for the zombies to come alive, the sister was still a serious threat once she was dead. but what did the blonde do? kept stroking her face and sitting 6 inches away from the most lethal part of a zombie---the mouth. c'mon. regardless of the "touching" moment they were going for, it displayed incredible stupidity on the part of the blonde (i don't even care enough about her to remember her name). this was the main sore point for me in the show. the rest of it was more or less fine.

i do agree with those of u who say the show's kinda dipping in quality. the last 2 episodes aren't as good as the first 3. hopefully the finale ups the quality again, pointing the way to a superior 2nd season...

no soul. :(

I absolutely loved this episode. Every minute of it. At the end I said: "this might be my favorite episode." My wife said: "you say that every week!" :lol

My favorite scene was EASILY the scene you guys are complaining about. We have seen the 'shoot your loved one when they become a zombie' many times, but this is the first time it made me cry real tears. It was brilliant in every way.

I think she was fully aware of what she was doing. The way she backed Rick off gave me that impression, atleast. She knew it was dangerous, but she didn't care about that as much as she cared about being able to communicate with her sister one last time. And given that she pulled the trigger in time without showing much effort, I think she was right to bet on her abilities.

Well said.

But the bottom line is that the scene felt right...

...if you have a soul. :monkey3

:goodpost:

And yeah, I loved that scene to. :rock

Again, this makes perfect sense, but you know the saying: "Haters Gonna Hate."

Yup, another reason why Daryl is my favorite character. He's tough on the outside but he does have a soft side too as evidenced by this scene and his farewell nod to Jim.

Seems to me that when the sister came back she still had a shred of "humanity" left. She was looking at her sister and stroking her hair. Not until the transformation was completing did she start to get aggressive.

When did they see someone turn? Only reason they didn't shoot sister 2 right away was cause sister 1 was packing heat. But...question, why did it take so long for the zombified sister to attack? usually once they go dead, they wanna bite right away.

I took notice of that as well. Daryl is fastly becoming a favorite of mine! :D

You have to assume they saw people turn during the height of the zombie disease. It just happened off-camera. The viewers now know what the characters on the show already knew by allowing us to see Amy's awakening. Very tense, emotional scene, but it does seem that the camp survivor's had a good idea of what to expect once Amy woke up and if Andrea didn't take action, one of the others would.

Daryl is pretty cool.

It wasn't an unreasonable way for Andrea to act.

It's admirable to see someone not be completely emotionally neutered with fear.

Yeah. It even seemed like she recognized her.

Think of the level these people would deteriorate to if they cut their emotions off at the juggular in the name of not taking even the slightest risk in regard to loved ones turning.

:dunno

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

no soul. :(

you know the saying: "Haters Gonna Hate."

this has got nothing to do with having no soul or being a hater. there were MANY moments in earlier episodes that i loved precisely because of their humanity and pathos. like the father who couldn't bring himself to shoot his own (zombified) wife.

the difference is, the scene with the dead sister was just badly played. instead of wringing an emotional response out of me, it just annoyed me. some have brought up an excellent point--- why would u want to see your loved one turn into an abomination? sure, the undead may have minimal retention of their previous identities but by & large that person is gone, reduced to an empty, bloodthirsty shell. if u found that touching, power to u. but to each his own.

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

She had unfinished business, and she was taking the last chance afforded to her to say what she had to say. Who's to say that there was no recognition? It's mostly the same brain as before, and we already saw with Morgan's wife that there is a remnant of the old self in there. Memory is physically stored. It would make sense. Isn't that why the zombies respond to sounds and smells that could only be produced by the living?

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I think what we are starting to see is some of the characters are beginning to crack. They've been on the verge of madness and histeria and you can see that some are starting to show it - who wouldn't. I think the writers are slowly showing this to us through most of the characters, even Daryl. Its funny because you see some of the others turn darker but Daryl seems to becoming a better human. His character is great but it makes you wonder if he is reunited with Merle at some point will he go back to the way he was before?

I really hope we see Morgan/Duane and get a clue of what happened to Merle in the finale. It would at least be a nice teaser for season 2 to show them before the final credits roll on season 1. I also wonder if we will ever see Morales and his family again, maybe just a scene of what happens to them good or bad for closure.

I am guessing that we won't see Morales or his family again, just like I doubt we will see zombie Jim either. From a production standpoint, they seem to be paring down the cast for season 2 with Rick, Lori, Carl, Shane, Andrea, Glen and Dale as the main characters and hopefully Daryl gets added as a main character too. It also lets them bring in more new characters for season 2.

Exactly. And when her unfinished business was done she did what was necessary without hesitation. And how much better that she do it than one of the others by force earlier on.

To those who don't see this I say: "good day sir!" :lecture

Re: The Walking Dead - TV Series on AMC

I'm finding all the "glad I didn't read the comic" talk in here kind of sad. Why is it ok to deprive yourself of one of the best written comics out there right now (the one that this show you like so much is based off of by the way) because you like the show so much?

When you see a movie you liked a lot and find out it's based off a book do you say "screw it, I'm not reading the book because I like the movie?" Seems crazy to me especially if everyone who has read it says it's amazing.

You just need to ignore the "I wish they did this from the comic" talk and just read it. It's different enough that it's not going to spoil the show. I too think the comic is better than the show but that doesn't mean I don't like the show; hell, I love this show.

Do yourself a favor and read the comic, you'll love it.
