Well when you're a new member looking for some advice and someone randomly starts ******** in your thread, I'd say its natural to get defensive.

Funny that EVILFACE of all people gave him a serious answer.

He could have LOLed at it himself. Imagine how differently the exchange would have gone after that if he had just taken the initial comment in good spirits. But no, a new guy's thread has to be some kind of joke-free sacred ground.

The noob just saw it as some guy randomly trying to start **** by bashing his thread title, rather than simply giving him the advice he kindly asked for.

This place is unexplored territory for the noob. He doesn't know any of you, he doesn't know how he's expected to react to comments like that, he hasn't spent years here learning how we interact and what's considered polite and not.

As members who have been here for years, you should want to help guide the noobs that are naive to our special society, not throw stones at them.

Lejuan's only mistake was to forget that a large percentage of new members can't take a joke. They assume ill intentions in everyone who isn't holding their hand in the thread. I was like that once, as I admitted. Today I'm embarrassed by it. I've avoided a heck of a lot of flame wars and made many friends in the years since by not assuming that people are ***ts and by instead joining in with the joke. This is how I would approach any forum now.

Was it really necessary though? Could you not have said that and also gave him some advice? Since you know noobs are apparently more defensive...could you be less instigative?

I don't remember what you said to him after he replied, which should have been an apology and "let's move on", but I think you continued to egg him on.

Just saying. I think you're a nice guy, certainly one of the better members on this forum, but I don't think you were in the right here.
