At least Whedon realized he made a mistake. He knows that blew. And hopefully he won't make the same mistake. I have faith in the man.

The problem now is how easy the Chitauri are defeated. They really present little to no threat. All the Avengers have to do is blow up the mothership. Such a great resource (and limited with the Skrulls being owned by FOX) ruined by lazy writing.

Yeah. I think it was just a mix of that, and trying to wrap it up. The point of the scene was to get them together. That happened...now what?

Although, i'll take a lazy ending over not even addressing it, like Transformers 3's ending.

The film was supposed to be the end, and yet there were still many other Decepticons around the world..:lol

IM3 showed that Tony IS Iron Man. The kid is his moment of clarity, his anchor in reality (having kids helps with this point). And people need to get over the fact that Mandarin was mentioned in name only in the film. The real Mandarin is still out there. I got this from the film and wasn't at all surprised when Black talked about that in an interview afterward. Were there cheesy aspects? Absolutely. But the story as a whole was considerably better and tighter than the silly plot and Phantom Menace ending of Avengers.

Tony Stark is cool and all, but it's spitting in the wind to pretend that the concept doesn't require Tony to don a suit. The suit is merely another manifestation of Tony Stark's genius and a perfect extension of it. Iron Man is Tony Stark and that's nothing we haven't known since the first movie. IM3 was redundant in that regard but as usual RDJ did a great job.

Have to disagree on a "real" Mandarin still out there. There is absolutely no indication an alternate exists is in that universe or was based on a real one in the film. If you have a link to that interview, I'd be interested. They could redeem themselves and introduce a "real" one at some point in the future, but judging by Black's previous statements regarding the character I find it unlikely that was his intention.

Anyway, Thor 2 is shaping up nicely. I'm kind of relieved they're giving Loki a break for Avengers 2. Lends more weight to what happens in this film.

Oh I understood IM3 just fine. It was what I understood that I did not like.

I am aware that Stark has substance abuse problems, and woman problems. What shoots down credibility in my eyes is having someone as mentally fragile as he was portrayed, being cool enough to take on world-wrecking threats. There's a lot worse than Chitauri out there. What is he going to do, have an actual panic attack when he sees Ultron or Thanos? that should be interesting....

People as fearful, not to mention impulsive as he is, tend not to do well in real life. Much less when faced with homicidal giant robots.

I'm glad we are getting a break from him in this film here. I am ready to not hear any more motormouthing for a little while.

I do hope that is the only Mandarin.

I know. :cuss

How about Stane taking his arc reactor out and leaving him to die paralyzed? I thought that was much more menacing than a bunch of low IQ alien goons running around.

I don't know what Shane Black has said in every single interview hes done, but I know Drew Pearce was very vocal about not caring that fans didn't like his version of the Mandarin and that people should have known that a comic version of Mandarin was not going to happen and not "suited" to be used in the Iron Man movie franchise , so, just from that... it looks doubtful they had a "real" Mandarin in mind for later.

See, I saw the exact opposite. When the truth about Trevor was exposed, we knew he wasn't the real Mandarin. Then, later, when Killian screams at Tony that he is, it felt more like frustration at Stark's preoccupation with discovering the real Mandarin's identity and not giving Killian his full attention. As for the interview, I don't remember if I'd read it in the IM3 thread or one of the comic movie sites, but Shane talked about how Mandarin was something Killian saw on TV and ripped off to use for his puppet.

As for Thor 2, yeah. I'm absolutely stoked that post has cleaned up the evil Teletubbies to look considerably more menacing. :lol

There you go.

If a lone kid can induce panic attacks by just mentioning the invasion, my hopes are not high for his face-off with the Hi-Tech Jack-O-Lantern; a quivering ball of nerves in a fetal position on the floor wont do the Avengers much good. :rotfl

If they can pull another Mandarin out of their hat, it'll be a welcome surprise for me. Until then I must bear the burden of Celtic dancing on cinematically defaced Mandarin! :monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

Back OT, Thor 2 looks solid.

Well to be fair it was to help provide some kind of basis for a psychologically scarred Tony. I think it's an interesting thing to dig into but I didn't quite think it fit that particular set of circumstances. For what it was, it did what it needed to do to move the plot forward.

Also, Thor 2 looks good.

I thought the trailer looked okay. It was cool to see everyone back but as a movie it looked pretty generic. Of course I thought the same about the ads for the Avengers too and we know how that turned out so we'll see.

A real Mandarin is easy.

First step fire Shane Black.

Two, bring back Ben Kingsley.

Say that when Killian created his front, the real Mandarin found out and wanted to see what the deal was so he showed up and pretended to be Trevor to see how his little game panned out.

Now post Avengers he comes back starts his own plan to kill Stark.

Have a battle play out in differant sections, using the various rings in differant orders. Use things like the Electro, Flame, and Ice blasts similar to how Vigors and Plasmids work in Bioshock. Have him use one to disorient Stark and fight some henchman then back to Mandarin. You could have a final battle that would be epic and play out with differant powers over the course of a good 20 minutes far more interestingly than just fire breathing and punching Killian. And keep Pepper as far away from that fight as humanly possible. Hell, put her in another dimension.

THe fact that Loki is the best Marvel villain right now is as lame as it gets imo. He isn't even a real villain.

I like it and completely agree.

However!

It's made far too much money now for them to rethink their Mandarin interpretation. As much as I hate to admit it, I think this one is gonna stick.

LoL @ Loki. Another example of how much things can change once they hit the big screen. It's got to be a little galling for Hemsworth to see Hiddleston steal the show every single time.
