Good stuff here....more fun than JL
Why would anyone be excited about a "hard R" Spiderverse?
Like the Fox-verse, it's a refreshing alternative to Disney's bland, uber-safe, made-for-kids cinematic universe.
The talent it's attracting (Hardy, Williams, Fleischer, etc) is also very indicative of the serious tone they're aiming for, which right now is completely absent from the MCU's take on Spidey.
The most recent thing I know he was in as a semi-regular was one of the NCIS shows.
So simply for contrarianism?
No, mainly because some of us CBM fans aren't teenagers and need something a bit more intellectually and tonally stimulating than the safe fare coming from Disney.
Naturally, there are people who gravitate towards said safe fare that aren't mentally capable of steering clear from a thread for something they clearly won't like or understand because it's very much the opposite of "safe".
There are also people who are mentally capable of understanding that a “hard R” rating as a goal is nothing to get excited about because it indicates nothing except curse words, nudity and gore. The stuff teenagers consider mature and “tonally stimulating.”
The 'R' rating isn't the "goal". The goal is content that isn't held back by a studio mandate to cater to children because they believe it equates to more seats (for further clarification on why an 'R' rating is a door to better content see James Mangold's Logan).
But you said you’re stoked about a hard R Spiderverse. “Hard R” is a term for movies with extremely risque content, not “better” content.
A studio mandate for any rating is counter-intuitive to creative freedom. Hard R Spideyverse is just that. Hard R. Nothing to be stoked about IMO.
