The best soundtrack. WTF.

I also recognized it when John Debny paid homage to it.

Hey, it's close, but not direct. Still, I can't get mad at it, because I love Goldsmith's stuff. So since we're never going to hear another score from his again, i'll take someone else using the style.

How about the Small Soldiers theme? That's some good ____.

Even though I am still pissed about this, I kind of want to see it.
:)
Yeah it's like a car crash you don't want to look but everybodies rubber necking, so you think whats going on?

I think we look back at our versions of films with rose tinted spectacles, but things WERE better.

Like superman, Total recall, ghostbusters, robocop etc, very dated by todays techniques but special to us as we grew up to them and were amazed by them back then.
A kid today is'nt empressed or in awe like we were.
I think this is down to a rapid explosion of cgi in everything to lotto results to kids programmes and everything is faster, on demand and an instant hit.

Also people have so much choice and little attention spans.
Where as a film would take, so it would seem years to be made and a buzz would be built up these days sequels are being shot longside the 1st film.
I think it is a sad state of affairs and the film industry is suffering due to poor attendances and weak scripts and rehashing old classics.

Yes total recall was a classic and it had a good soundtrack although alot of goldsmiths stuff does sound very similar.
This version won't have the charm or humour of the original.

What is verhoven up to these days, we need more nutters like him making films?

The bigger picture (for me at least) is the annoying trend currently in Hollywood to remake EVERYTHING. Even movies from just a couple years back. And it's getting worse and worse. So seeing this kinda crap just makes me less and less enthusiastic about the future of cinema.

Agreed.

It will stop. It's a terrible phase. But it will stop. People will get sick of it, and the numbers will drop.

They'll play it out until no one cares.

No, it won't. As long as humans keep reproducing, remakes are fair game for the next generation (who are they to criticize the idea of remaking a movie if the original gets older and older with each new group of people that fewer will have seen it?).
Why do you think they keep making Alien and Predator movies for bored teens on late Friday nights? That target audience keeps coming back, that's why.

Having that said, I'm actually psyched to see Bryan Cranston's portrayal of Cohaagen. Could be quite cool.

No. It will play itself out.

PG-13 horror crap used to come out at least every Friday. I remember, because I was dragged to every one of them. They kept coming, and coming, with no signs of stopping.

And then one day, they did. It's actually pretty rare for a PG-13 horror movie to come out now. They still do, every once in a while. But not as often.

Spoof movies were huge for a while. Date Movie, Epic Movie, Superhero Movie. And then they started to dwindle and fail.

Movies also used to be marketed with their film stars. "TOM CRUISE IN WHATEVER". And you'd see it, because it's got Tom Cruise in it.

Now? You have to have to have a franchise, a book, a comic, a game, something the audience already knows, in order to sell it to the masses.

But regardless, if teens go see Alien or Predator on a Friday night, and they are bored, they should be banned from seeing films. And then beaten by a tire iron. :lol

Oh yes they are. Comic book movies are a huge trend now as well.

Just because some do better then others, doesn't mean that there isn't a huge over haul of them.

See here's the thing, if this movie were called "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" like the Philip K. ____ story or something similar (or even a 100% original title) than it would be different.

But no, it's called "Total Recall" because they're trying to cash in on the 1990 movie with Arnold and hoping fans of that will come and see this.

Garbage.

Exactly. Same with Robocop. Hollywood comes up with a new original idea, doesn't have faith in it, finds something similar that already exists, attaches it and whores it out.

That's a very good point. :clap
