Wasn't very successful?

Opening Weekend: $70,502,384

Domestic: $319,246,193
+ Foreign: $389,026,399

= Worldwide: $708,272,592

Aside from those numbers it had the 3rd highest domestic gross of any movie in 2007, behind only Spiderman 3 and Shrek the third.
Im curious, why do you say it "wasnt really successful"?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it wasn't successful because he personally didn't like it. Just a shot in the dark though:rolleyes:

:lol

I'm not a huge fan of the first movie and I thought that clip was godawful but it is hilarious how people just make up support for their arguments around here.

And yeah, I'll still be going to see Trannies 2: Electric Laboofalloo. Transformers is snob-proof. Giant robots is giant robots. If only I could go to a screening with the dialogue muted.

Word of mouth got around that it was crap and it wasn't as successful as they'd hoped. I remember reading an article on rottentomatoes at the time. I wouldn't just come out with it if I'd never heard it before cos I kno there are alot of people who like to show off thier knowledge of sales stats.

Well...if it did so bad, and was so incredibly hated...then why is there a sequel, and is pretty much the most anticipated film of the summer?

So....you can enjoy the G1 stuff...and let everyone else enjoy these amazingly fun action movies.

I see you are a master of specifics. If you didn’t like the movie cool, just stop spewing non-sense and claiming the movie was unsuccessful because of some internet article you may have read over a year ago. The fact is that The Movie Was Extremely SUCCSESSFUL FINANCIALLY, and with those numbers nobody can disagree with that fact. Sales stats are the measure of FINANCIAL success. It says nothing of the quality of the film itself or critical opinion, but to say it wasn’t successful just makes you look like your a salty guy who didn’t like the movie and is just trying to make his opinion justified thru some retarded reasoning.

Would you say it was Financially successful ?
And if not, what would you consider successful? (Please don’t say Terminator 3:rotfl)

I don't mean to get into B.O. arguments as finance is my least favorite topic when it comes to movies. But I specifically remember reading articles before the release about what a huge investment went into TF, specifically I remember an essay about the man hours that went into designing Optimus Prime and how the cost of that one character could only be justified if sequels were inevitable. I remember thinking that was kind of ballsy since TF was an untested film property since 1986, and that might as well be Never.
Once the movie was released all I can remember were reports along the lines of "best non-sequel opening" and "set the record for Tuesdays in July" and whatnot. I'm legitimately curious if the film has ever been categorized as a disappointment.
And as for quality - I think every movie can be debated within and outside of it's genre. I'm not going to tell anyone TF isn't a great movie but if someone really wants to get into the deficiencies of the script or compare it to intelligent blockbusters I think they have every right to (and I would probably agree). I think creative success is relative to where you were aiming but that does not excuse you from the standards that similar works are considered against.

Financially, it hasn't.

Yeah I'm big fan of the first TF movie but that clip was awful. The whole thing with Megan undressing outside was just dumb. I thought Bay was going to learn from the last film and stay away from the mindless acting he's so famous for.

Sadly, I'll only be watching this movie to see the bot's in action and not for the story.

I don't know how anyone could consider the first movie a financial failure. Not only did it rake in gobs of cash at the box office, but the toy sales connected with it were through the roof. They made money hand over fist on that thing, hence the sequel.

As for the clip, it looks like more of the same, epic robot battles mixed with childish humor. That's about alll I'd expect from a Transformers movie. It ain't Shakespeare folks. I just hope they cut the Cybertronian gibberish in this one and have all the robots speak english.

I agree 100% except that I wish they would have the human actors speak Cybertronian gibberish.

It's a movie about transforming robot cars. If it took itself seriously, it would fail. Its perfect the way it is.

'Sides...who goes to a Bay flick for anything other then explosions, and action? Bay rules.

Terminator is about a killer robot from the future and it takes itself seriously and it's excellent. Yes it's true that Michael Bay blows things up real good but that doesn't mean you can't expect more than terrible dialogue and story. It's almost like he goes out of his way to make the characters offensively stupid.
And I know Megan Fox is hot. Just saying that doesn't excuse everything. It makes it easier. It does make it easier.:lol

Transforming cars.....based of toys....vs. a movie about a Cyborg running around killing everyone. But it also delt with moral issues.

Still. TF is a silly concept, and if it was taken seriously, it would fail. Hardcore.

Sillier than robots from the future? And then liquid robots from the future?
Nope. Treat any silly idea with enough intelligence and it can work. TF is fine because it wants to be a stupid movie. But it could be better if they cared enough to make it so.

It could....but it would'nt have been as fun. Which is really ALL I want out of these movies.

I mean, I love a good drama....but sometimes I just want something light, and fluffy.

But who knows, this one could actually be a bit more serious then the last. It'll have its share of sophmoric humor....but perhaps there will be more depth? Either way, I cant wait.

(And i'm sure Terminator Sal will fuel my SciFi/Action/Drama perfectly...:D)

I agree that it doesn't need to be anything more than it is. I would love it if they made more of an effort with the humans but whatevs. I'm ready for it to be dumb and hopefully fun.
Honestly I will probably skip Salvation. I'm not trying to poop on that either but I consider Terminator to be a classic and T2 the rare worthy sequel and while I don't throw in with people who think a bad entry somehow ruins what came before it I do mourn what's happened to that franchise. I'll be much more willing to like that if I catch it on HBO next year.
