Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

The only thing I'm going to tweak is the belt on the rig. I ordered a longer one from Stevo so that it hangs a bit more, the way I had intended.!

I got my Mal rig early last week and just threw it on last night. That's the one thing that disappointed me. It's almost as though he made the belt just to go around the waist and not to hang like it should. All it needs is another 1/4 inch or so... :monkey2

Yeah, I ordered an 8" belt and it woks perfectly. There are pics of mine up on Stevos site if you want to check it out...maybe consider getting a longer one. They're under the "view 1,2 and 3" of the Mal rig.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

If it was a 'free replacement' I'd think about it. I might just to a 'behind the back patch job' to be honest.

edit: The pics do look good. And there were actually YOUR pics! lol Good to see he's added different lengths now though! (and updated his turnaround time).

Got my heads today. Absolutely fantastic. Hadn't realized I had to drill them though, so they get pushed to the back burner for now. I haven't worked up the courage to try drilling into dcustom heads yet as they cost too much to risk screwing them up.

Yeah:lol I sent him pics when I got the new belt and he asked if I minded him using them...

I look at the sculpt and all I can hear in my head is

GORRAMIT MAL!

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Yeah, I sawed off the neck, drilled the head, then sanded it down with a dremel drum sander attachment

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Wow, that's a lot of work. looks great though.

Please read the following and provide your thoughts and comments.

So I just got the heads yesterday and they are amazing! The detail that Trevor managed to get in these is just unreal. Really makes me excited about Firefly again.

One thing I noticed though, and I am interested to get other people's thoughts. They seem a bit big. When I compare them to other Hot toys heads, and when I put them on a truetype, they look too big. I talked to Trevor about my concern and he was extremely apologetic. Turns out that when he sculpts for Sideshow, they normally ask him to sculpt his heads a bit larger than 1/6 so that they can shrink during the casting process. He said that as a result of him doing this for so long, he is not exactly sure what scale his heads are sometimes. He felt really really bad and offered a full refund to me and to anyone else who feels this way.

Problem is, they are so gorgeous, I don't want to give them up! But at the same time, if they are going to look too big, then they won't work.

My question to all of you is firstly, what are your thoughts on this, and secondly, I'd really love to see some of your bashes with the heads attached to the body to give me a better idea of what they look like all put together. What bodies are you using? It seems like the hot toys truetype is the clear winner, but I am not sure if they may be a bit too small.

I'd like to hold off on sending them back until I see some of the brilliant work from this thread. Once again, Trevor felt very bad and reiterated to me that if anyone wants a refund, he is more than happy to fulfill that request.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Neehar I put mine on a tall Buck and I think it looks pretty good.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Keep them you knucklehead! :duh

They're brilliant sculpts and once on bods, fully clothed and on display with each other, or by themselves, the sizing will be less noticeable. Tho' a wee large, at least they're in scale with each other. :) And if you have any SS figs at all, you are surely used to the larger heads by now. :lol

yeah, Trevor did mention that they were originally sculpted to be put on a Buck. I'll need to get one to see what it looks like.

I hear you! I don't want to let them go! I still would like to see they fully clothed, but even as I was writing my post I was thinking "i would be an idiot to let these go"

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

If it looks too funky I may use a regular TrueType with the wider shoulders instead of a narrow shoulder TT to help downplay it. I agree though...once the head is on my fully clothed figure, I don't anticipate any problems. I'll be sure and post pics as soon as I can.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Thanks for responding Dane. I'm really excited to see Mal on your body. Your outfit is beyond awesome.

Is there a difference between a tall buck and a regular buck body? Anyone have a link to where I can get a tall buck from? I looked on ebay but wasn't sure if I was looking at a tall buck or not - or even if it was a buck at all.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey all!
I just wanted to chime in.

Indeed, it does really depress me to hear that they are too large. It's completely my own fault, as the methods I use for sculpting 1/6 scale headsculpts is just out of date at this point. I'll have to address my scale issues with any future pieces. To be perfectly honest, I've never bashed a custom figure together! The sculpting tends to be my only involvement, so scale issues slip by me unless I'm alerted to them.

If anyone feels like they got a bum deal due to the headsculpts looking strange on their figure body of choice, just let me know. I will certainly refund anyone if you are disappointed. My only ambition with this has been to give Firefly fans an opportunity to have something we very likely won't see hit the mass market, but I never wanted anyone to feel like anything was presented in a dishonest manner.

I truly hope the pieces will look good once assembled. I've been trying to contact folks on my list each week, and I'll continue to cast the pieces up, but if you have any trepidation, just let me know when I contact you about your castings.

Thanks folks!
Trev
