Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Received my set last week and was very pleased. Though when I first looked at them I thought they were a tad big but then after looking at the gorgeous detail and the great likenesses I forgot about it rather quickly.

I would say when you get around to doing more characters from Firefly it would be best to just go ahead and keep them in scale with heads you already have done. That way when they are displayed all together nothing will look odd or out of scale with them.

Fantastic sculpts, no regrets here!!!

I wait to long for this and I'm more than happy with my head....and It kind of sucks when some people _____ about something Trevolver didn't even really have to make...it's not like he's sideshow or hot toys (they didn't want to touch Firefly with a 10 foot pole) even they don't get it right ever time. don't get me wrong I love both sideshow and Hot toys but this was a special project for us Firefly fans (Brown coats) And I just want to thank Trevolver again for everything and all of your great HARD work...and please don't let this detour you from make more of the crew.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

You will have to pry mine from my cold, dead hand.

I second this notion... except my Mal is in GDB's hands for painting... so I guess you'll have to pry them from his hands on my behalf. :gun

So Trevor, the 'second mold' version of Mal. You said there was a size issue. Does that mean they're a tad smaller?

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Apologizing for any aspect of the tremendous service that you have done for all of us Firefly fans is completely unnecessary Trev, but classy all the same.

If it makes anyone feel better, I'm looking at the HT Marcus Wright head I have as a place holder on my Mal outfit right now and, to be honest, I've always thought it looked a tad small in the context of the outfit.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Hey again!

beeshaw- Yes, the newest mal castings are microscopically smaller. Hardly noticeable, but a little smaller.

The Vampire With Soul- I very much appreciate your support. I will certainly do the other crew members over time.

It's quite alright for anyone to voice their concerns with me. I'm not above mistakes, and no artist should be so proud as to think they don't need to improve. 1/6 scale is undoubtedly the toughest for me, because scale is very tricky. It's unfortunately very difficult to just lock in each portrait at a certain size. Different facial features can trick your eye and you might make things overly small or overly large. It's an ongoing struggle to reign them in.

I will be making all of the Firefly pieces in scale with each other, as I also feel this is the most important thing to do at this point, with three characters already sculpted.

Again, I apologize for letting the scale become an issue. I appreciate the kind words of support, but feel free to be honest with me at any time if a problem should arise.

Thank you!
Trev

My feelings exactly. The heads are a tad big, but they're so beautiful that it doesn't really matter - should make painting them easier as well :)

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I'm sorry to have brought this up! I'm very excited that Trevor is going to be doing the rest of the crew in the same scale - I'm probably going to do some surgery to my existing truetypes, or try to pick up some bucks. As everyone else has said, they are too beautiful to let go.

I look forward to fully put together pics now!

Ha! That's exactly what I was going to post when I started to read about refunds.

My Mal is the best custom sculpt I've ever owned, hands down. Nothing else has ever come close.

To finally be able to have some Firefly figs is a blessing in itself. To have those figs sculpted by a master like Trev, is just unreal.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

i don't think its going to create a problem for me in the long run. the quality of the sculpt and the cleanness of the cast is so good that it totally overrides the slight oversize.

I'm just scared to death drilling them so I haven't really started on them yet.

I'm in agreement with everyone, the sculpts are just too good to let go. Sorry for the post, I didn't in ANY way want to indicate that I didn't think Trevor put out a good quality sculpt - on the contrary, I was SO torn with the awesomeness that I did NOT want to let them go, but wanted to see them all put together to make me feel better. Returning them was the LAST thing I wanted to do.

As for drilling, what I find is easier, safer, and less stress inducing is to just cut off the top of the neck adaptor on the body so that the bottom of the neck and the neck adaptor are flush with each other. Then you don't have to touch the heads at all.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Don't worry Reinhardt. I think its a worthy discussion because it will bring up good solutions to mitigate the issue. I'm glad you mentioned it and very neat to see Trev talk about it in a very non-defensive attitude. It was very cool of him to offer the refund, though I don't think anyone would dare trade them in. :)

And thanks for the tip that is a very valid solution to drilling, though I guess you lose rotation?

Thanks, appreciate the post.

As for the heads, as long as you super glue the head to the neck post, you won't lose any rotation whatsoever.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Can't wait for mine.

Is everyone uses TT's for this project ?

How about for the female bodies ?

Anyone think of maybe the Triad or other bodies ?

How about the Rambo type body for Jayne ?

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

I want to use TT, but they may be too small.

I just got my Mal cloths in so I need to see if I like the fit on a Buck or a TT better.

I am going with the Cuban TT for Zoe. I also have the Howes River sculpt and want to find something more petite for her.

Re: Trevor's Firefly Sculpts

Interesting. I am not sure if my pocket can afford all TT's and wanted to get some options.
