I can give Mary Ann a break on not knowing what Sookie is, since she is a pretty unique beast - part
fairy
and a telepath. There's no reason to believe the two are connected necessarily, or if they are, it's not a consistent thing. So it's possible that it's rare enough that Mary Ann hasn't come in direct contact with someone quite like her before, I suppose.

Did the preview for next week show anything good? How many more ep's before the season finale?

IMO Buffy/Angel are kiddie ^^^^ compared to this, True Blood blows both of those shows out of the water.

True Blood may have more nudity, but the themes, dialogue and plotting are still far, far superior in Buffy/Angel. Perhaps after True Blood has run for 13 seasons, it might come to equal the Buffiverse. But Alan Ball seems more intent on keeping it light - violence, sex, comedy and not deal with deeper themes like Buffy/Angel did.

I would love to see what Whedon could do in an HBO type format.

Damn I almost spit my coffee out everywhere! :horror:rotfl:horror

I also agree its more simplistic, but IMO, its nowhere near as corny as Buffy or Angel and overall just far more enjoyable. Never understood how people got into Angel at all though.

I look at it like this, the reason I like this show is because it knows what it is, and doesn't try to take itself too seriously. The simplistic element you refer to, is to me, more or less the show just not wanting to get caught up too much in the technical vampire aspects that will drive most people away. It's also on HBO whos latenight audience is use to a certain type of show, pacing, and humor. And from what I understand, he has to expand on the existing material to get more out of it without straying too far as well.

Vampires are not an easy sell to everyone. Frankly alot of guys my age find Vampire related anything downright "gay" thanks to Twilight. So its understandable.

That said, loved this weeks episode.

I knew you'd go there Dave and that's exactly why I posted what I did. :lol Stop being such a snob! :D

I'll stop being a snob when you all bow down and accept my superior opinion as being the only correct one.

I would disagree with Gordon too - Buffy/Angel was ALL about character, even when it was about plot. I think True Blood is more about plot than Buffy/Angel ever was. He's right about them being completely different animals though. True Blood isn't really serialized as a normal network show, it's a half season and every episode is really just a chapter from an overarching story, and isn't meant to stand alone as a network episode has to. That frequently makes for more complex plotlines, such as Dexter. But that structure also forces a network show to concentrate more on characters that can bring viewers back each week, rather than just having them tune in to see what happens next.

I loved this weeks episode and you guys are right about the scene with Jason etc that was funny as hell. :lol

On the Buffy thing i watched season 1 and found it a bit corny and childish i just didn't want to watch anymore and gave my bother his complete dvd set back.

He loves buffy and angel but says that True blood is the better show but i can't really say without seeing the whole series as i've only seen 1 season of buffy and that was enough for me. :lol

Now Now, you can't start comparing TruBlood and Buffy/Angel to Dexter. They aren't even in the same league, hell, even in the same galaxy.

Aside from having creatures called vampires that bite necks and drink blood, there is nothing remotely similar about Buffy/Angel and True Blood.
