I'll be picking it up for sure once it's on blu-ray.

I won't need to since I have HBOGO but even though I thought the wrap up was weak I still loved the ride and will binge watch all the episodes back to back eventually. Will be a much differant experiance to rewatch this in a few years though.

There's not too many shows where I'm interested in bonus commentary and so on, but this might be one, which is why I'm thinking of the blu-rays. I've got them recorded but would like the set if it delves into some more of the details. Must've been a lot that they cut out, I'm thinking.

This is insulting :

"Sursingly the ending didnt go the way some theorized hence they find it weak"

The implication is that you would have to be so hard headed and stupid that if it went any other way then what we guessed, we simply couldn't accept it.

Could not be further from the fact. I love that I was repeatadly wrong about my own guesses, if I felt the way you describe, I'd have stopped watching after I was wrong about earlier events and episodes.

The actual fact is you don't even know what happened because you have not seen it but you chose to involve yourself in the debate anyway. Your statement also makes it sound like they can do no wrong even though you haven't even seen it, it can't possibly be weak or mediocre when in reality, again, you're the one who has zero idea what we're even talking about.

I dunno why you wanna turn this into a fight or even about the fact that i saw or not the finale.
I have not debatted anything about the show itself, i just posted a reaction to réactions ive read.
The end might be weak, i have yet to see it, but like i said i found funny that those who found it weak were the same who had theories that seems to be completely (and yet were adamant to say NO this is it and not that) wrong.
That. Is. All.

Now if you took it personaly that is your problem.
Wich is weird Especially after i told you i was not pointing at you.
If you feel like picking a fight over something so trivial and end up calling an unknown (who happens to love a show that you like too wich should make him more of a friend than a foe) morron, stupid.
Well more Power to you, you re a great human being.
You rock dude :D

Again, I've had incorrect theories about prior events in other episodes. That did not make those other episodes weak. The ending was the only part I found weak.

I find it funny someone who hasn't seen it would take any position on anyones opinion that has. In fact I'd call it trolling. You're trash talking anyone who didn't like it, don't use that anyone who watches it should be friends line of bs in the same breath you troll.

Now don't you have to go find an illegal download to watch?

Once again i did not take any position.
Just made an observation.
As you said i might end up joining those who found it weak.
Yep Lets add trolling to the mix.
Bye now have a great night :)

Anyone who hasn't seen this episode but is in here to discuss it is an idiot. Now I'm not saying you're an idiot, I'm just making an observation.

Great ending imo. Sad its over. I'd love to see MM &WH come back sometime in a future TD. I doubt it will happen but none the less, they were amazing together.

Well there is going to be a season 2. MM said he will not be in it, but the story will continue. I wish we could still continue to follow Cohle and Hart but supposedly it will be an anthology series ala American Horror Story. So while I found the ending to be lacking in giving us a resolution, this is not the end of the series.

But I think it's been stated it's(seaon 2) in no way connected to this. Not just the characters, but the case and location and everything will be differant. Feels like they could do another season with this story absolutely though. I'd welcome it.

I think the Yellow King will be the binding figure in all the stories though. The cases will be different, but lead back this overarching villain. After a few seasons possibly leading to McConaughey and Harrelson returning, being drawn back to the story. I just can't see the show dropping the Yellow King. Way too big of a deal made of this growing darkness to just go onto a different evil. I hope I am right anyway.

I'm the opposite. It would (IMO) be a bit ridiculous if the Yellow King is some sort of cartel boss, where a ton of seemingly unrelated cases all lead back to him. I think this is it for this story. I like how it ended and don't want to see it get overdone. It's right at the cusp of that for me, already. Another season of Yellow King references would be overkill and tiring. Move on to new stuff.

Imagine if every season was indeed linked back to the first and then the final year had every single big name actor coming back in a huge ensemble. Wouldn't happen of course.

But the problem I see with that is this investigation took so long. If the new one picked up in 2012 they only have 3 years to cover for the story.

I think this is the end of this storyline which is why I'm a little dissapointed we didn't learn more about the cult itself. It feels rich enough based on what we already know to jump right into another season but it'll just be alot of throw away.

I agree there's more that could be done. I still have questions and would like to know more specifics, but at the same time I've found that getting all the details isn't really that satisfying, generally. I think in a way that was part of the point of Marty putting a stop to the detectives' exposition. For a story like this, that revolved around some pretty revolting people/horrific subject matter, I'd rather speculate with what we have than get too much deeper into it.

Great ending (especially once they get to the house, really thought that was a brilliant endgame), IMO. Glad NONE of the speculation (here or elsewhere on the 'net -- not referring to any specific conjecture) that it was Rust, Marty, Maggie's father, Maggie being involved, etc., panned out.

Disagree that it was a weak or bizarre ending. Marty simply said he didn't want to know any more of the details, just like how he quit being a cop after he found the baby in the microwave. He doesn't want to know the specifics and it has no relevance, anyway. It's not like him knowing all the gory details is going to lead directly to the others involved.

As for some getting away with it, I think that's a pretty realistic ending. Like Marty said, they can't get them all, but they've crippled the organization pretty good. Errol seemed to be far more than a henchman. If he wasn't the top (and he sure talked like he was at the top -- it might've been a club that he let Tuttle into, not the other way around), he was the right hand man and pretty much irreplaceable. There's only so many Thomas Hewitts in the world.

Plus, Rust is indefatigable. We can assume he continues to dig into stuff and follow leads until he's no longer capable. Fantastic series but there's no way for a show like this, regardless of how it ended, to please everyone. I'll be picking it up for sure once it's on blu-ray.

I agree with this.

"Once, there was only dark. If you ask me... the light's winnin'." Some of the best eight hours of television I have ever and will ever see. Beautiful ending. I'm still in awe at Rust's revelation. Wow. And I'm still shaking at what I just saw.

So how do you guys feel about the finale in the grand scope of the rest of the season. I'm seeing alot of complaints on Reddit about this particular episode vs the rest having an awful lot of cliches and I have to agree. Alot of what felt like rushed writing, convenient clue finding(paint on his ears), intentional misdirection or completely pointless plots(Garaci on the boat had almost no point to it) and horror movie cliched ending(Texas Chainsaw, Silence, Kiss the Girls). Definately was the weakest written episode of the season imo and the one I felt relied most on Matt and Woody's acting to carry it along. I'd give everything upto this point something like a 9/10 but after the finale I think I'd drop my overall rating of the series to a 7 or 8. Incredible acting let down by it's writing.

Still digesting what I just watched. Great series but I do agree that tonight was the weakest episode of the season. The last 5-8 min was very underwhelming to me. I would have rather seen one of them die than limp off together like that.

Some random thoughts...
- MM picked the absolute worst time to have one of his visions. Lol
- I would have been okay to WH walking in on MM getting his face cut off after scarface told him to take off his mask.
- wish we got some closure on Woddy's daughter. The barbies were exactly the same as the tape.
- thought maybe the yellow king is actually The Sun. The alter room at the end was designed perfectly to look up at the sun.
- can't think of any movie that was creepier than this show. Some great scenes.
- didn't really like how scarface was talking through all of the cave scenes. Voice was too clear.
- "you havnt made flowers on me in three weeks... I'm just sad that's all I'm saying" best line EVER. Lol

I feel like they rushed a bit in this episode. Series could have easily gone another 2 episodes. Good series but The Wire still sits at the top for me.

Yep that was beautiful.
What a perfect ending.
It had all the police, action stuff needed.
Straigtforward, not losing itself in unneeded stuff.
And then that beautiful long ending.
Really great.
One thing tho annoyed me a bit, the whole killer characterization.
He was perfect in carcosa, his voice, his speech, his brute force but before, the dolls, stinky house, pervert, ugly guy was a too cliche.
Visually its one of the Best show ive ever seen.
Damn that last vision was so spot on, so well timmed.
It was a great idea to have the character having this view of Life, then adding this vision thing that would expand the vista of the show, elevate it.
You can choose to see The spiritual, surnatural aspect if you want its not forced on you or just enjoy it as a great cop show.
I love that.

We witnessed a really great moment in art.
Bring on season 2 and i want my Blu boxe now :)
