I didn't see this anywhere else on here.

Here's a look at the Triceratops...

rexvstrike.jpg

No way . . . I KNOW that image! It's identical to a picture in an old Ranger Rick dinosaur book I had as a kid! The triceratops slammin into the t-rex, the angle of his head turning - it's the exact same scene! I know what the rest of the illustration is, and it's fantastic!

Looks to me like the T.rex in the SS dio is pivoting, body facing forward and craning its head and neck backwards... perhaps for a better bite?

For some reason I didn't type "not" in, but that's what I wanted to say. It's clearly that the T-Rex is not extending the body.

This piece is getting better and better.

I agree. This piece is looking more and more spectacular with the more detail that is being revealed. It's going to be magnificent!

I hope for an Allosaurus VS. Stegosaurus on the horizon! This piece is just going to spectacular.

Oh, and I can think of no better inspiration than Ranger Rick. ;) That magazine was freakin' awesome! :banana

Even though I'm not really a statue owner, this line really has my interest.

Anyone watching Jurassic Fight Club on the History Channel? That is exactly what I picture this line being like. There could be some cool crossovers between the two (ie cross promotion of eachother).

I'm a big fan of Jurassic Fight Club, even though I find myself pointing out a lot of inaccuracies durinng the show... and I'm not a fan of Dinosaur George Blasing basically crafting a story at the end of the episode as to how a fight could have gone down, in his personal opinion. Still, I find the show extremely amusing, and I had an iTunes subscription for this season. The good easily outweighs the bad with it, and I find the series immensely enjoyable.

Here's hoping for Museum Quality as well! :D

I feel the exact same way. No way can they no all of the crap the claim to, but it still makes for an interesting watch. I too like Dinosaur George's coreographed fights and the end.

One thing I thought was really interesting on the show, if true, is that Raptors didn't need to exhale. They just inhaled and little holes in their bones would do the exhaling through their skin for them! :google No wonder they could have been so fast!

This is ridiculously cool.

Theres an old movie with a triceratops/tyrannosaurus fight and it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this. The tri loses, but he gores the t-rex first.

Yea, one of the many "facts" that was exaggerated on the show. We have no evidence for cutaneous respiration in raptors, whether extant or extinct. The evolution of hollow bones, it's believed, was originally for added speed and agility in the raptor niche for hunting prey; most people think this is why the feature is seen retained in modern birds, having been of adaptive advantage to achieving flight, making them lighter in weight. The whole "these animals didn't have to exhale" is not just a stretch, but doesn't follow phylogenetically; in fact, we can test for it in a laboratory setting. Try it with a pigeon or other domestic bird. I'm sure there's a way to rig an experiment. If you only allow the animal to inhale, it's not going to go over well for the health of the bird. The bird lung is compartmentalized to ensure that there is always fresh air in the lung, allowing for maximum respiratory efficiency. Unless it's an amphibian or less derived vertebrate, the bird's out of luck. They made a similar claim with the Megalodon, saying that it could "literally taste the ocean through its skin," which is just a blatant falsehood. The denticles, "teeth-like" protrusions, on the skin of a shark, are to help make it stream-lined in swimming, not to help it taste-test the ocean. Just because the word "tooth" is thrown in, they start to interpret that as taste...

Sorry, I love the show, but some of their assertions are just mind-boggling. The Allosaurus/Ceratosaurus episode was great. The way they described the Allosaurus eventually rendering the Ceratosaurus extinct due to it being a generalized predator that outcompeted the Ceratosaurus, was very well done.

There's an interesting thought... A dio with THREE dinos: an Allosaurus, Ceratosaurus, and, say, a Stegosaurus. I would love to see these carnivores fighting over who gets to take on the Stego - which is quite capable of fending off either of them. Another cool dio would be Allosaurs and Ceratosaurs scavenging and fighting over a Diplodocus corpse. That would seem to be a winner for sure. :rock

Was it a claymation fight? I think it was an old documentary-type school special. It was particularly graphic and brutal, as I recall. Damn good.

It was Harryhausen style, but the film was fiction. It was in color (colorized, possibly) and I believe there was a woman watching it from the sidelines. I want to say it was the original Journey to the Center of the Earth, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

Here's a (small) gif showing a bit more of the Triceratops head...

That beak looks mean. :rock

Guess it wasn't the same fight; the one I'm thinking of was in a thick conifer forest; it was Harryhausen-esque, but there definitely weren't any humans there. Still sounds cool, though.

Nice find with the gif, Sabres! The trike looks like it's going to be a tank! Check out the beak and nasal horn at the front! I'm glad they seem to have put just as much love and detail into the trike as they have the T.rex! Hopefully we'll see this in its entirety this week! I cannot wait for Thursday night! :rock

Could be as early as tomorrow!

Sideshow's site says that, aside from the Iron Man comiquette, there should be at least one other new piece released today! I hope Spooktacular delivers!
