I don't want the check... too many ways for it to get lost or stolen. DD is the way to go.
You're no safer there than a check. Bank transfers can get hacked, connection issues can occur, erroneous information in the system. Both systems are flawed, it's really just a matter of preference.

Remember people if you filed through an agency like h&r block etc. you're getting a check not a DD even if you had them DD.
(cause it goes to their bank account first,to get the fees taken then THEY DD it to your bank account not the IRS)

I filed through Jackson Hewitt with DD and I received mine via DD today.

So, I finally get a hold of an IRS rep regarding my refund (since, according to their release, I was supposed to have mine DD between 4/28 and 5/2). And it turns out that anyone who had their 2007 Tax Return direct-deposited between more than 1 bank account will be getting a check NOT a DD. First off, that makes NO sense. Secondly, thanks for telling us that, a-holes. I was sitting here worried that they'd screwed something up, when it turns out I just have to wait another week or two for a live paper check. Freakin' government.

Damn, you'd think that someone had kidnapped your children at gun point and this IRS check is the only thing that can get them back. Relax, we are all gonna get it.
It does suck for me, as my closest bank is about 200 miles away.

First off, it's money... and some of us are diligent with the budgeting. I personally like to know every penny that's coming to me, and when I can expect it so I can adjust my current budgets and plan accordingly.
Secondly, with all of the scams and identity-theft out there, it's good to be on top of anything having to do with your bank account or any other accounts you have.
Lastly, it's not at all "free" and isn't just dropping from the sky. The IRS is going to figure out a way to get this back from the economy somehow (if they haven't already).
