Frankie won both fights. However the first was much closer than their 2nd meeting.

It's a fact that Jon Fitch is one of best in the world at implementing his gameplan. BJ has great Takedown Defense, but i'm not certain he will be able to stop Fitch's relentless takedowns. Jon is considerably larger and considerably stronger than BJ. I'm sorry I'm a huge fan of BJ but Jon Fitch is NOT the guy you attempt "to build up your confidence". He has ONE sole loss in the past 7 1/2 years, and that loss was to arguably the greatest pound for pound fighter in the world (GSP). It's gonna be an interesting matchup, but once again, if the undersized BJ Penn is gonna win, he must FIGHT THE FIGHT OF HIS LIFE, and be pretty much flawless.

Doesn't matter. One of the things I respect the most from Penn is his willingness to take on challenges. Even those challenges that the majority of fans think he will fail at. He's never taken fluffer fights just to boost his win record or to get an easy win. That is why his overall fight record is so deceiving. People look at it and see how many losses he has compared to other champions that are holding the belt now...but they don't realize who those losses came to and at what period of time that was.

If he loses to Fitch I'd be bummed but I give him all the props in the world for putting his reputation and record on the line when he is viewed by so many people to fail.

I disagree. BJ has not beaten fighters that are better than Jon Fitch.

here's a list of BJ's best wins:
Takanori Gomi
Matt Hughes 2xs
Renzo Gracie
Joe Stevenson
Sean Sherk
Kenny Florian
Diego Sanchez

Sorry braaa, Fitch would OWN everyone on that list.

Own? You're kidding yourself dude. get real.

Lets look at Fitch's current wins which goes from current to 2007.
Thiago Alves
Ben Saunders
Mike Pierce
Paulo Thiago
Akihiro Gono
GSP
Chris Wilson
Diego Sanchez

Guess what the funny part is. Fitch hasn't finished ANY of them. All to decision...even Sanchez whom Penn absolutely destroyed.

So maybe you should check your definition of "own" again and get back to us because Fitch can't even own someone like Chris Wilson...who?

True. Impressive win, but I just don't understand how people can see that and think Penn could do the same thing to Edgar or GSP (which is what I've been seeing from die hard Penn fans).

nah, i still think GSP is too much for Penn. If they met at 165 or something, I think it would be a different story.

I just think that Penn could do the same to Edgar because of how he performed against sherk, stevenson, sanchez, and florian. Imo when he fought Edgar the same Penn didnt show up.

I guess I'm just jaded from seeing so many excuses from BJ Penn and his fans to explain his losses.

Pulver - Bad judging (Fans)
Machida - Weight disadvantage (Fans)
GSP I - Bad judging (Fans)
Hughes II - Broke rib in the second round (Penn)
GSP II - Greasing/cheating (Penn)
Edgar I - Bad judging (Fans)
Edgar II - Real BJ Penn didn't show up (Fans)

In other words, if you let BJ Penn and his fans tell it, he's actually never lost a fight.

:lol:lol:lol:rotfl

It can never just be "BJ got his ass whooped by a better opponent". it always has to be some other thing to explain his performance. Just kinda tired of it. You know?

But I agree 100% with this..

Fitch is a grinder. He likes to lay on guys and punch on them for 3 rounds and tickle fests.

Damn.. Gerald Harris got cut from the UFC.

WHAT? Really? Why? I know his last performance wasnt that great but i didnt see that coming.

he isn't a finisher but i would say he totally dominated most of his opponents by just wearing them out, like a Pitbull that never gave them time to breathe. He Breaks his opponents that way,not the most entertaining fighter but he gets the job done his way.

Just because Penn can knock someone to hell and back that Fitch couldn't doesn't mean he would destroy Fitch.
Fitch is a strong wrestler and i think Bj Penn would have a hard time if Fitch gets him down, his condition has been in question for a long time and i think Fitch will take advantage of that.

Finally watched the fights, I thought Machida won. Machida's a counter fighter, Rampage did chase/aggression but didn't really land the clean shots.

But there was really no clear cut winner. They should make the fights longer, 5 rounds for all main/co-main events regardless. That fight was just getting good.

I like Penn, he's not my favorite fighter, but here's my take:
Pulver - needed the 1st round to be 5 seconds longer
Machida - won in the balls department for fighting him, but took an ass-whooping
GSP I - should've bettered his cardio
Hughes II - you have to admit, he was beating him pretty handily the first 2 rounds, then basically did nothing the 3rd, I do believe he was hurt
GSP II - greasing, but it wouldn't have mattered, GSP handled him BAD!
Edgar I - too close a fight, to be the champ, beat the champ. Edgar didn't do it
Edgar II - whether he was hurt or bummed out or whatever, no excuse, he knew what he had to lose by not winning that fight, and his heart wasn't in it. He LOST!

hahaha greasing. :lol That damn Crisco.

Neither one was the clear winner of the first two rounds at the stand point of landing more shots or doing more damage than the other. Machida basically back peddled the whole time and landed some leg kicks and tried to counter, where-as Rampage pressed forward the whole time and showed more aggression. I think that's what swung the decision towards Rampage. Machida just looked scared to commit. I think the ass kicking he got from Shogun brought him back to earth a little bit more. The 3rd round it looked as if Machida knew it was too close to keep to his game plan and it was do or die, so he went after Rampage, and it paid dividends ... but too little too late. If they do rematch I think Machida knows what he needs to do to win the fight and will get the W, but with Rampage it only takes one good punch, so who knows.

:slap its funny how people think GSP was cheating. its the same with George Sotiropolous and his guards.

Maybe Penn should have used some Crisco for the 1st and 2nd Frankie Edgar fights.:lecture

It was a joke :gah: And like I said earlier, it doesn't matter if GSP was having his corner grease him or not, he man-handled Penn in that fight.

So Rampage wins a round based on "pressing forward n aggression"?, When Machida did more damage from countering?

Machida fought like he always does. Boring or not. What ever Rampages game plan was it didn't work, although he won the fight. But he even knew he didn't deserve it. He admitted he lost.

So does Machida get cut or have to change his style to win his next fight??? He has the boring non aggressive style.

I still can't believe Edgar Man-Handled BJ Standing. I lost all respect for BJ after those 2 fights. He talked so much crap and fought a sparring match with Edgar, thats all it was. Pillow punches all day.

So Rampage wins a round based on "pressing forward n aggression"?, When Machida did more damage from countering? .

how is that? Machida landed maybe 6 leg kicks in the 2 rds combined and thats completely all he did in the first two. Rampage dominated the clinch game, had cage control, landed a fair amount of body shots and foot stomps in the clinch, threw more punches when they were in the center, and got a takedown. Machida didnt do anything in either of the first two rounds that showed he deserved to win either round. Theres no controversy here, and no rematch to be made. Machida was just scared of getting KO'd in the beginning rounds.

Machida landed a couple leg kicks and did zero trying to counter. Yeah, Rampage pressed the pace of those two rounds and was more aggressive (going after him, clinching, doing damage in the clinch), while Machida damn near ran backwards and did next to nothing. Rampage was the clear winner of those two rounds. If you don't like the outcome of the fights then become a middle-aged, over-weight female and maybe you can be one of the ringside judges.
