Well, that question can be asked for any contact sport like Football, Rugby, Hockey, etc. You should know the risks this day and age and make the decision if it's worth it or not. They didn't know back then but brain damage is very possible with any contact sport. It's good that fights are months apart nowadays, can you imagine back in boxings early days the amount of punishment they took with many fights every year. Sugar Ray Robinson had 85 amateur fights and 200 pro fights officially and he wasn't a defensive fighter by any means.

I boxed, played basketball, football, Lacrosse, wrestled, karate tournaments, and more. I have had a few concussions, a torn acl, broken nostril, and broken fingers, and a torn rotator cuff. The thing is though, all these injuries happened in practice or sparring. Never during a session that mattered. Thinking back on it, I'm not sure if it was worth it. Now I watch a guy like GSP who has a great mind. He was a nerd growing up just like I was. I would compete in boxing tournaments and chess tournaments in the same weekend. I've studied and learned many of things. The thing is I'm 28 and I'm having trouble remembering things when I rarely forgot anything. The other day it took me almost a minute to get out of bed due to a shoulder and collarbone injury. Now back to GSP, he has been in two recent wars to name a few. One with Condit and now Hendricks. This isn't even talking about sparring. He's a millionaire with plenty of life to go. I can't say the trade off was worth it. Youth for a life of fighting.

Really hope GSP retires..He's looked very vulnerable since coming back from his torn ACL and took tremendous damage vs Condit and Hendricks and even Diaz messed him up..He's got youth and enough money to last him multiple lifetimes and nothing left to prove..Time to try something else..he is starting to show serious signs of brain damage

That's what I don't like about Dana White. Sure, GSP can retire now and enjoy his life. Dana acts like he owns these fighters and gets angry if they don't do what he says. It's great that he wants to set up the best against the best, but he doesn't get to say when a fighter retires or takes breaks.

I agree, i wasn't impressed with Dana at all. We haven't heard from GSP yet, but it seemed Dana got his way and no GSP isn't gonna get his time away which he clearly needs, i dont think he told Dana what was really wrong or how much it's affecting him cause he looks and acts like someone who's over-stressed and has the beginning stages of brain damage. And that's saying nothing bad about GSP as i love the guy for how he's fought and improved the MMA game. But he's clearly deteriorated since coming back from injury not so much in his ability but in his behaviour, he seemed different in the primetime videos for this event. I just hope the guys okay and if he can't keep going that he retires before taking more unnecessary damage just because it's "what he owes Dana, the UFC and the fans", maybe so as champion but health comes first.

Hendricks deserves a rematch for sure even if i dont think the fight was as one sided as everyone else seems to think it was, i just think Dana should let his "biggest PPV draw" have some time to himself away from the sport to sort his s*** out cause it's said to see GSP going the way he's going atm.

Perfectly said.

I hope GSP walks now and stays retired. His legacy is secure, and there's little else for him to prove at this point.

Concerning the toll of playing sports, I'm 31 and still play tackle football, rock climb, and play basketball. My body is pretty beat up, and it is sometimes tough for me to get going, but I'll only be young once and want to make the most of it. If my body is destroyed when I'm 50, so be it. The reason I stayed away from competitive boxing/mma is the head trauma, which to me is certainly not worth it.

And now Dana is trying to talk Koscheck out of retiring. He should no longer be the face of this company.

I really enjoyed the last 2 UFC PPV cards. 166 was off the hook, but there was something truly special about 167. 167 was monumental.

I hope GSP etires. The UFC should be thankful and respectful of everyhing GSP has done for the organization, not the otherway around. GSP owes Dana, Hendricks, the UFC and the fans NOTHING. This guy has given it all. He has been #1 in the world for YEARS beaten everyone and done everything. Hendricks had his chance and he let it pass him by. Georges has earned the right to retire and or take a break. GSP is arguably the greatest talent the UFC has ever had the privledge of showcasing. Give the man a break.

His sustained success is what is mind-blowing. His face belongs on the mount rushmore of MMA.

That's the face of a warrior. I am not sad for GSP, but if he retires now good for him. He has nothing to prove to the fans of MMA. But, like many past and current fighters (Boxing and MMA), many come back for 'ONE MORE' and pay the price.

GSP and Silva both need to retire, imo. Throw in the NOG brothers too and the Axe murderer.

lol truthfully theres a whole slew of guys that should retire. I'll throw in Dan Henderson also and Shogun. Some guys just don't know when to quit.

He just doesn't look like the same guy I rooted for back in Pride... after he had his forehead shaved down.

GSP never said he wants to retire. He wants some time off to fix his personal life. But I bet the rematch happens in end of Spring or Summer.

Silva could prolly be at the top well into his 40s imo. Unlike GSP, his face has never been wrecked and he hasn't taken crazy amounts of damage in his fights. He only has 1 legit loss. I think GSP is the biggest class act in the history of mma and he has nothing to prove. Even if he came back, there is really nobody else to fight that would give him great motivation. Him fighting Silva will never happen, so he prolly should just leave. He's beaten everyone there is to beat and he has taken a lot of blows to the head in the last few years. It seems after every fight, his face looks worse. In primetime, he said he wants to have a big family, he's not getting any younger, perfect timing I think. Time to move on. He has a lot of knowledge and can be a great teacher.

Its the face of a brain damaged Frankenstein monster...Its definitely time for GSP, W. Silva, A. Silva and especially the two nogs to hang 'em up

TMZ says GSP has an unplanned baby on the way with a random woman lol

Yes GSP's a baby daddy..got some black woman pregnant and wanted her to get an abortion but she adamantly refuses to do so (she basically won the lottery)

Looks like the rematch will be announced soon

Dana White
“As far as a rematch, we’re on schedule and I’ll have a date within a couple weeks,” White said. “I feel confident that Georges is fine with that and all is on track.”
